Tottenham Hotspur has been affected by the Covid-19 epidemic.

According to Sky Sports, up to six Spurs first-team players and two members of the backroom staff have tested positive for Covid.

A coronavirus outbreak at Tottenham has hampered the club’s plans for a busy time of games. Before fresh PCR testing on Tuesday, a handful of first-team players and two members of the coaching staff are said to have tested positive.

Spurs’ preparations are poised to be significantly hampered by a must-win Europa Conference League match against Rennes on Thursday, followed by Premier League fixtures against Brighton and Leicester.

Covid-19 forced the cancellation of Totttenham’s matches against Aston Villa and Fulham last season, while two players had false positive findings on a lateral flow test early this season but were permitted to play after a negative PCR test. Antonio Conte will be aiming for a repeat performance and no more adverse tests before the end of the season.

Rennes’ game being called off is improbable because, according to Uefa rules, a team must have fewer than 13 available players or no registered goalkeeper to do so.

If the situation worsens, the club may request that the Premier League postpone the Brighton match on Sunday. The Premier League works on a case-by-case basis, and a club’s request to postpone a game would be decided by the Premier League board. Spurs players affected by the outbreak might miss the next three games due to the 10-day self-isolation period for anyone who tests positive. If it is postponed, then it will be their second match, this season, that has faced this fate, with the first being against Burnley due to snow fall.
