The Indian delegation was led by Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and men’s hockey captain Manpreet Singh at the Commonwealth Games 2022 openings on Thursday at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium. Neeraj Chopra was intended to be India’s flag bearer in the opening ceremony, and he was injured while competing for a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships. Along with Olympic medalist P.V Sindhu, the group includes Mirabai Chanu, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Lovlina Borgohain and Bajrang Punia. Vinesh Phogat and Manika Batra, as well as Hima Das, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, and Amit Panghal, are the defending CWG champions.

India will be represented by 215 competitors who will compete in 141 events across 19 sports.

The top eight teams will compete for the gold medal in women’s T20I cricket at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this year.

More than 5,000 athletes will compete in the Commonwealth Games, which begin on Friday in the English city of Birmingham, despite the absence of numerous track and field superstars.

There will be 1,875 medals available across all athletic categories, with more women’s events than men’s for the first time in a worldwide, multi-sport event.

The Commonwealth Games feature 136 gold medals for female athletes and 134 gold medals for male competitors.

India won 66 medals in 2018 Commonwealth Games.  India’s best Commonwealth Games performance came in 2010. India won 101 medals in 2010 CWG, including 38 gold medals.
