In ODI cricket, the record for most hundreds is held by the legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar. Throughout his career, which lasted from 1989 to 2012, The Master Blaster, as he was affectionately called, scored 49 tons in the 50-over format.
The player with the most runs in international cricket, Tendulkar, made his ODI debut in 1989 against Pakistan. Even though it took him just nine games to reach his first half-century in an ODI, it took him five years to reach that milestone in 50-over cricket.
The legendary batsman notched his first ODI century in the third game of the 1994 Singer World Series, which featured India, Australia, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. Tendulkar struck 110 runs off 130 deliveries as India defeated Australia by 31 runs in their matchup. There was no turning back after that, and the rest is history, as they say.
Tendulkar played 463 ODIs during the course of his 22-year career, totalling 18,426 runs. His 50-over career culminated with a 48-ball 52 in a six-wicket victory over Pakistan, the nation he played his first-ever ODI match against.
Virat Kohli, a former captain of the Indian cricket team, ranks second on the list of players with the most ODI hundreds. It only took Kohli a little over a year after his 2008 debut against Sri Lanka for him to reach his first ODI century. His two most productive years, when he reached six centuries apiece, were 2017 and 2018.
Ricky Ponting, a former captain of Australia, has scored the third-most hundreds in ODI cricket. The skipper of the 2003 world championship team scored 30 centuries in 375 ODIs. Rohit Sharma, the current captain of the Indian team, is listed after him on this list with 29 tons, while Sanath Jayasuriya, with 28 centuries, rounds out the top five.
