IPL Records and Statistics: Result Records – Wins off the Last Ball by Wickets

9 Min Read

The IPL is the cricket league with the highest attendance worldwide. According to average attendance across all sports leagues in 2014, it came in sixth place. The IPL was the first athletic event in history to have a live YouTube broadcast in 2010. T20 is a very unpredictable game. Thus, batsmen usually take it easy by going for a single if there is even one run left to score off the final bowl of the innings. Of course, the batters will have to assume that additional risk if the goal is high. Several players have hit six on the final ball of an inning to help their club win games during the history of the IPL. In this article, we’ll take a look at the list of wins off the last ball by wickets.

The Chennai franchise acquired several current star cricketers during the first player auctions for the first IPL season, which were held in January 2008, including Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Matthew Hayden, Stephen Fleming, Muttiah Muralitharan, and Michael Hussey. Dhoni became the most expensive player in the auction when the Chennai franchise paid $1.5 million to get him. The franchise selected Kepler Wessels as head coach, and Dhoni was named team captain. On April 19, 2008, they played their inaugural match at Mohali versus Kings XI Punjab.

Rajasthan Royals

The Indian Premier League’s franchise cricket team, the Rajasthan Royals, is based in Jaipur, Rajasthan (IPL). The team is situated at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur and was established in 2008 as one of the original eight IPL franchises. The Royals are well known for their ability to find undiscovered, high-potential talent and involvement in several issues and scandals.

Despite not being considered a title contender by the media or the public, the squad led by Shane Warne won the inaugural IPL. Under Rahul Dravid‘s captaincy, the Royals finished as runners-up in the 2013 Champions League Twenty20. In response to a 2013 betting scandal, the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings were given a two-year suspension on July 14, 2015, and were consequently unable to compete in the IPL tournaments of 2016 and 2017. For the 2018 season, they entered the competition once more.

Punjab Kings

The Indian Premier League’s franchise cricket team, the Punjab Kings (PBKS), is situated in Mohali, Punjab (IPL). The franchise’s co-owners are Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta, and Karan Paul. It was founded in 2008 under the name Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). The PCA Stadium in Mohali is where the squad plays its home games. Since 2010, they have also played a few of their home matches at Indore or Dharamsala. The team had only made one additional playoff appearance in 13 seasons, in 2014, when they finished runners-up and atop the league standings.

Kolkata Knight Riders

The Indian Premier League franchise cricket team for Kolkata is called Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, actress Juhi Chawla, and her husband Jay Mehta are the franchise’s owners. At Eden Gardens Stadium, the Knight Riders compete.

The team initially qualified for the IPL playoffs in 2011, and due to its affiliation with famous owners, it has grown tremendously popular. By defeating Chennai Super Kings in the IPL final, they won the title in 2012. In 2014, they defeated Kings XI Punjab and accomplished the same feat. The most incredible winning streak by an Indian T20 team belongs to the Knight Riders.

Gujarat Lions

Gujarat Lions was a cricket franchise side based in Rajkot that competed in the Indian Premier League on behalf of the Indian state of Gujarat (IPL). The group took part in the IPL. The team, along with Rising Pune Supergiant, served as one of the stand-ins for the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, who were both suspended for two seasons due to their respective owners’ involvement in illicit betting, for two seasons between 2016 and 2017.  Intex Technologies owned the franchise.
