NFC Team: Arizona Cardinals Jersey – Colours, Uniform, Designs and Outfits

6 Min Read

Located in the Phoenix metro region, the Arizona Cardinals play professional American football. The Cardinals play their home games at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, a suburb northwest of Phoenix, where they are a part of the National Football Conference (NFC) West division of the National Football League (NFL).

The team was founded as the Morgan Athletic Club in Chicago in 1898, and on September 17, 1920, it became a founding member of the NFL. The Chicago Bears and the Arizona Cardinals are the only other NFL charter member franchises remaining in existence since the league’s establishment, and the Arizona Cardinals are the oldest continually operating professional football team in the United States (the Green Bay Packers were an independent team and did not join the NFL until a year after its creation in 1921).

History

The Cardinals took part in the NFL’s 75th-anniversary throwback uniform campaign in 1994. The interlocking “CC” insignia and three stripes on each sleeve of the jerseys were reminiscent of those worn by the Chicago Cardinals in the 1920s. The right chest was the new location for the uniform numbers. To replicate the hue and fabric of the time, the pants were khaki. For two games, at Cleveland and at home against Pittsburgh, the Cardinals likewise removed the logos off their helmets.

About Uniform

From 1982 through 1995, the white jersey’s sleeves featured the Cardinal head that was on the helmet. As football jersey sleeves got shorter in 1996, the Cardinal head was removed, and black was replaced as an accent color with a blue that matched the main color of the state flag. The Arizona state flag was also moved higher on the sleeve. The Cardinals started wearing all-red and all-white outfits in 2002, and they wore them until 2004 before the team underwent a redesign.

The group unveiled its first substantial revisions in a century in 2005. The new cardinal-head logo is more svelte and menacing than the old one. The earlier iteration had received mocking nicknames like “parakeet” from many enthusiasts. After an eight-year hiatus, black was reinstated as an accent color, and the outer shoulders, sleeves, and sides of the jerseys and pants were given trim lines. Red or white pants can be worn with either red or white jerseys.

In 1988, the Cardinals wore red uniforms during their first home game in Arizona. Following that, for the following 18 years in Arizona, the Cardinals, like a few other NFL teams in warm climates, wore their white jerseys at home during the first half of the season, making it difficult for opponents to play in their darker jerseys during Arizona autumns that regularly see temperatures over 100 °F (38 °C). The move of the Cardinals from Sun Devil Stadium to State Farm Stadium in 2006 put an end to this custom since early-season games (and a few home games late in the season) were played with the roof closed. Having reached a comfortable 70 °F (21 °C) inside, The club decided to don red uniforms at home all the time. At State Farm Stadium on August 29, 2008, the Cardinals debuted their white home uniforms during a preseason game against the Denver Broncos.

At a regular-season game against the Houston Texans on October 11, 2009, the Cardinals donned white at home for the first time. Players wore pink-colored accessories, like gloves, wristbands, and shoes, in October 2009, when the NFL acknowledged Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The group felt that pink accents looked better on white uniforms than they did on red. When the Cardinals hosted the Dallas Cowboys from 1970 through 1983, and again in numerous seasons between 1989 and 2002, the Cardinals would wear white to make the Cowboys don their “jinxed” blue jerseys. [18] But since they moved into State Farm Stadium, they haven’t done this. The Cardinals debuted a new, alternate black uniform in 2010.

For the NFL Color Rush initiative in 2017, the Cardinals made their debut in an all-black outfit. The Cardinals’ Color Rush alternates, in contrast to the usual black alternates, had red lettering and black pants instead of white lettering and black pants. Both black jerseys and a different black helmet will be worn starting in 2022.

Red or white pants can be worn with either red or white jerseys. The Cardinals debuted the red pants on October 29, 2006, during a game at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers, hoping to snap a six-game losing streak.
