1. Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians is a team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is owned by Indiawin Sports, part of the huge Indian company Reliance Industries. Even though Mukesh Ambani who runs Reliance is officially the owner, his wife Nita Ambani who is involved in charity work, also cheers for the team during matches. They started in 2008 and are the most expensive team in the IPL bought by Reliance for a massive $111.9 million. Over the years, they have become very successful and won five IPL titles (in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020). They play their home games at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. 

Currently, the team is led by captain Hardik Pandya, and Mark Boucher is the head coach. Some of their best players include Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan, who are known for their great batting and bowling skills. Apart from winning on the field, the Mumbai Indians are also famous as a brand, valued at over $100 million in 2017. 2. Chennai Super Kings

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is a team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) that won the championship five times. They are officially owned by a company called India Cements Limited. N. Srinivasan who used to run India Cements is seen as the owner but now he is not actively involved anymore. They started playing in 2008 and their home matches happen at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The team is led by the legendary MS Dhoni. Another cricketing legend, Stephen Fleming coaches the team. CSK has won the IPL title five times, which is as many as the Mumbai Indians, and they have made it to a record ten IPL finals. Out of the 14 seasons, they got into the playoffs 12 times, the most by any team.

3. Gujarat Titans

The Gujarat Titans is an IPL franchise based in Ahmedabad and owned by a company called CVC Capital Partners which is from Luxembourg. They won the franchise in the 2021 auction by bidding a huge amount of ₹5,625 crore. On the field, the team is led by Shubman Gill and coached by Ashish Nehra, and they play their matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera. In their first year in 2022, they did remarkable by winning the IPL trophy under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya. Even though they did not win in 2023, they reached the finals and were at the top of the points table, showing they are still a strong team. 

4. Delhi Capitals

The Delhi Capitals is previously known as the Delhi Daredevils. The team is jointly owned by two groups: the GMR Group and JSW Sports with each owning half. GMR Group is led by Kiran Kumar Grandhi. JSW Sports is a part of the JSW Group and is run by Parth Jinda. The team started in 2008 as Delhi Daredevils and got to the final in the first IPL season but has not won the trophy yet. In 2018, JSW Sports got half ownership, and they changed the team’s name to Delhi Capitals. Since then, they regularly made it to the playoffs and reached the final in 2020.

Right now, the Delhi Capitals are coached by Australian legend Ricky Ponting, and the captain is the powerful opener David Warner. The team has experienced players like Axar Patel, Kagiso Rabada, and Prithvi Shaw, along with some exciting young talents. They play their home games at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. 

5. Kolkata Knight Riders

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are a popular team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and have a unique ownership setup. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and actress Juhi Chawla, and her husband Jay Mehta jointly own the team, with Shah Rukh Khan’s production company which is Red Chillies Entertainment also being part of it. Playing at the historic Eden Gardens stadium, KKR has won two IPL championships (in 2012 and 2014) and reached the playoffs. They are known for their style of play and have a passionate fan base. Shreyas Iyer is the current captain, and Chandrakant Pandit serves as the head coach. 6. Punjab Kings

The Punjab Kings previously called Kings XI Punjab are a cricket team in India that plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They have been around since the IPL started in 2008, even though they have not won the championship yet. The team is owned by four important people: Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta, and Karan Paul. Although they have not won the IPL. They made it to the finals in 2014 and reached the playoffs a couple more times. Some famous players like Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle, and Glenn Maxwell have played for them. Right now, for the 2024 IPL season, Shikhar Dhawan is the captain, and Trevor Bayliss is the head coach. 

7. Rajasthan Royals

The Rajasthan Royals is a franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They started in 2008. They have only won the IPL once in 2008 and were runner-ups in the Champions League Twenty20 in 2013. It is led by Manoj Badale’s Emerging Media IPL Ltd owns the team. Sanju Samson is the captain, and cricket legend Kumar Sangakkara is the Head Coach and Director of Cricket. They play their home games at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur known as the “Pink Brigade”. The Royals have players like Shane Watson and Jofra Archer. In recent years, they did well, coming in second in IPL 2022 and making it to the playoffs in 2023. 

8. Royal Challengers Banglore

Royal Challengers Bangalore, or RCB was started in 2008 and was first owned by Vijay Mallya. Now, it belongs to United Spirits Limited which is a part of the Diageo Group. Even though they have reached the IPL finals three times (2009, 2011, 2016) and made the playoffs six times, they have not won the big trophy yet. The team is led by Faf du Plessis with star players like Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Dinesh Karthik. The head coach is Sanjay Bangar. They play their home games at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. RCB’s team colors are red and gold, representing courage and enthusiasm. In terms of value, they were estimated at ₹1.025 billion in 2022, making them the sixth most valuable IPL team.

9. Sunrisers Hyderabad 

The Sunrisers Hyderabad is also known as SRH and is a pro cricket team from Hyderabad, India, which has been playing in the IPL since 2012. The franchise is owned by Kalanithi Maran, a big-shot in media, and run by his daughter Kavya Maran, who is the CEO. Aiden Markram leads the team and is coached by Daniel Vettori, and they play at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. They have done well and won the IPL in 2016 and 2018. Sporting orange and black with notable players like Aiden Markram, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kane Williamson, and Umran Malik.

10. Lucknow Super Giants

The Lucknow Super Giants are a new team in the IPL which is joined in 2022 and owned by the RPSG Group led by Sanjiv Goenka. They are based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, with KL Rahul serving as both captain and coach. The key players include Quinton de Kock, Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis, Ravi Bishnoi, and Avesh Khan. In their first year (2023), they made it to the playoffs, finishing 4th after losing the Eliminator. Their colors are navy blue, golden yellow, and white.
