Its primary owner is Sanjeev Goenka. Andy Flower coaches the team, which is captained by KL Rahul. Gautam Gambhir is the team’s mentor. Lucknow Super Giants made the playoffs in their first season.
The team is owned by the RPSG Group, which also owned the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise from 2016 to 2017. This team is expected to play its home games at Lucknow’s BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Lucknow Super Giants Team History
The Indian Premier League’s Governing Council issued an invitation to tender for two new teams in August 2021. A total of 22 companies expressed interest, but with a high starting price for the new teams, only six serious bidders emerged. The Indian Cricket Board allowed a consortium of three companies or individuals to bid for each franchise. With a bid of 7,090 crores, Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG Group won the rights to operate the Lucknow franchise.
The team held a competition to decide its name, from which the name Lucknow Super Giants was chosen in January 2022.
The Lucknow Super Giants drafted KL Rahul, Ravi Bishnoi, and Marcus Stoinis, and during the auction, the franchise went for one of the best performers, resulting in a formidable squad. LSG also hired Andy Bichel, a former Australian fast bowler, as their bowling coach.
On March 23, 2022, the team unveiled their jersey for the upcoming season.

2022 IPL Season: debut season of the team
The team brought many players to the mega auction in February 2022, with the all-rounders outnumbering the others. Quinton de Kock, Mark Wood, Krunal Pandya, and Marcus Stoinis were all brought in by the franchise. Later, the franchise named KL Rahul as captain and Andy Flower, a former Zimbabwean cricketer, as head coach for the upcoming season. The franchise also named Gautam Gambhir as the team’s mentor. Marcus Stoinis was unavailable early in the season due to an ongoing Australian series in another country.
Because it was confirmed prior to the start of the season that English pace bowler Mark Wood would be unable to join the team due to injury, the franchise drafted Australian bowler Andrew Tye in Mark’s place to fill the requirement of pace bowler in the team in the first season.
LSG finished third in the table in its first IPL season, qualifying for the playoffs. In the Eliminator Match, they faced fourth-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore and were knocked out.
