BWF Sudirman Cup: China Thrash Japan 3-0 To Reach Final

Defending champion China advanced to the final of BWF Sudirman Cup with a commanding 3-0 victory over Japan on Saturday. 

China thrashed the Japanese side to make it to the title game for the 16th consecutive time.

China’s world number two mixed doubles pair Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping set the tone, beating Hiroki Midorikawa and Arisa Igarashi 21-11, 21-17 in the opener. Top seed Shi Yuqi then thrashed eighth-ranked Kodai Naraoka 21-8, 21-16 in the men’s singles to hand China a 2-0 lead.

Japan showed resilience in the women’s singles, where Akane Yamaguchi, who had won 21 of her previous 33 encounters with Chen Yufei, pushed the Tokyo Games champion to three games but Chen held her nerve to prevail 17-21, 21-9, 21-16.

China, the most successful country in the Sudirman Cup with 13 titles, will meet either four-time champion South Korea or 1989 winner Indonesia in the final, with the two teams facing off in their semifinal clash later this evening.

BWF Sudirman Cup Semi-Final: China vs Japan- As It Happened…

The Chinese pair of Feng/Yuang has won the first game to get off to a brilliant start in this semifinal. They won the first game 21-11 but were stretched by their Japanese counterparts in the second. However, despite being put under pressure, the Chinese duo was just too good and won the second game 21-17.

In the men’s singles clash, China’s Y Q Shi was up against K Naraoka of Japan . After the first game, Shi took a 21-8 lead while Naraola made a comeback with 11-10 lead in the second. However, Shi beat the Japanese 21-8, 21-16 giving China a 2-0 lead.

In the women’s singles, Japan’s Yamaguchi took home the first game 21-17. But in the second game, Chinese opponent Chen raced ahead to a 13-4 lead. At the end it was Chen who prevailed with 17-21, 21-9, 21-16 against the Japanese rival.
