Women have played a significant role in WWE’s history, evolving from initially seen as eye candy to being celebrated as talented athletes. This transformation was marked by fabulous women “Superstars” who not only improved the portrayal of women but also attracted a broader audience.
Many major tournaments like WWE Women’s United States Championship, Women’s Intercontinental Championship, and NXT Women’s Championship are held at regular intervals to promote their participation.

WWE’s Dallas Cowgirl: Wendi Richter
Wendi Richter played a significant role in bringing WWE with the MTV generation as she featured in “The Brawl to End It All” on MTV. She is a two-time Women’s Champion as she defeated The Fabulous Moolah to claim her first title in 1984 and ended Moolah’s lengthy title reign.
She lost her title due to a dispute which led to her departure from WWE however, she regained it at the inaugural WrestleMania. She was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2010 for her long-lasting impact on women’s wrestling. Her career paved the way for future generations of female competitors in the sport.
The WWE Icon Lita
Lita was the ring name of Amy Christine Dumas of North Carolina. She is a legendary name in professional wrestling known for her contributions to WWE. She’s a four-time Women’s Champion winning her first title in 2000. She teamed up with Becky Lynch to win the Women’s Tag Team Championship making a significant return to the ring.
She was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014 for her impact on the game. She was also named PWI Women of the Year in 2001 and PWR Diva of the Year in 2006. Her legacy makes her a fan favourite and her influence continues to relate today as she remains an iconic figure in history.
Sable: The OG WWE Diva
Sable, born Rena Marlette Greek is a retired American wrestler, model and actress. She gained popularity during her time in WWE as she became the second woman to hold the Women’s Championship title in 1998.
She has an all-time high record of 3-0 at WrestleMania. She became one of the biggest diva in WWE history during the Attitude Era and won two Slammy Awards in 1997 for Dressed to Kill and Miss Slammy. Her achievements make her an unforgettable pioneer who broke new ground for women in the community.
Seven-Time Champions: Trish Stratus
Trish Stratus is known for her power, talent, and beauty. She held the record for most Women’s Championships titles, being seven until Charlotte Flair broke the record in Match 2019. Stratus started as a fitness model and entered WWE as a manager in 2000.
She retired from the ring after winning the seventh title against Lita in 2006 and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013 for her record-tying history in the ring.
