Chelsea takes on Aston Villa in the third-round match of the Carabao Cup. The match takes place at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s home ground.
This will be the fifth League Cup tie between Chelsea and Aston Villa and the first since 2006-07. Back then the sides met in the fourth round.
The Blues have beaten Aston Villa in three of their previous four meetings, with Aston Villa’s only triumph coming back in 2003-04 in the quarter-finals.
Chelsea could be without their first-choice goalkeeper Mendy. He is suffering from a minor hip complaint and may not make it into the squad. Christian Pulisic will also be a doubt as he continues to recover from an ankle issue.
Meanwhile, Emiliano Buendia could return for Aston Villa. He was an unused substitute in the 3-0 win over Everton after only returning from Croatia hours before.
Buendia had been training with Emiliano Martinez to avoid quarantining following international duty with Argentina.
