Chennai Super Kings’ Campaign in IPL 2026
The CSK IPL 2026 schedule comes after a difficult 2025 season where they ended in last place for the first time in franchise history. The CSK team has also retained its overall team leadership following such a disappointing year, CSK is again going to have Ruturaj Gaikwad as their captain along with MS Dhoni continuing to be part of the on-field setup for one more year and Stephen Fleming also remaining with them as their head coach. CSK will play all of their home games at MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai.
Major Trades and Auction Moves by CSK
As part of its effort to restructure their team, the Chennai Super Kings were one of the busiest franchises during the 2026 IPL auction process. One of the main moves they made during that cycle was to trade for Sanju Samson with the Rajasthan Royals, who are often referred to simply as the “Royals.”
CSK made what appeared at first as “double-dipping” by trading two long-time players – Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to the Royals for Sanju Samson.
As if that were not enough, the acquisition of Samson took center stage when he was named the Player of the Tournament at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, following a dominant performance there.
Record-Breaking Auction Buys
CSK was recognized for its big investment in young Indian players.
The franchise has put ₹14.20 crore into two uncapped players in the IPL.
Kartik Sharma
Prashant Veer
Those two now hold the record for being the joint-highest priced uncapped players in IPL Auction history, showing that CSK is focused on developing a strong, young, and exciting franchise.
Overseas Signings and Squad Strengthening
To strengthen their squad depth, CSK added several international stars:
Matt Henry – fast bowler
Matthew Short – all-rounder
Akeal Hosein – left-arm spinner
They also added domestic players such as:
Sarfaraz Khan
Rahul Chahar
These additions aim to improve both the batting depth and bowling options.
