WWE superstars are no athletes like any other sportsperson. The strength it takes to fight in front of thousands is seen in very few superstars but to fight more than once during the same night or the event has to surely be something that only a few specialists can do.
A title match is something that a wrestler prepares for weeks or months but when given short notice of just a few hours let’s see how they perform. Here are some of the WWE wrestlers that fought twice or even thrice during the same night.
Bret Hart at Wrestlemania X
Opening the night of the marquee event Bret Hart went against his brother Owen hart. The two brothers equaled each other’s effort which made the clash one of the best opening matches in WrestleMania history. It was Owen who surprisingly came on top as he defeated his brother Bret.
Bret had almost no time to re-think his loss against Owen as he was set to main event WrestleMania X in a match against Yokozuna for the WWE Championship. The Hitman was the Royal Rumble winner which earned him the right to challenge Yokozuna for his title. It was a rematch from last year’s WrestleMania where Yokozuna won the clash. Bret was looking to avenge his last year’s defeat which he did successfully as he defeated Yokozuna to cap off the night by winning by becoming a two-time WWE Champion.
Edge at No Way Out 2009
The Rated R Superstar created history on the night of No Way Out in 2009. The event started with an Elimination Chamber Match which saw Edge defend his WWE Championship belt. The Elimination Chamber also featured Jeff Hardy, Vladimir Kozlov, Big Show, Triple H and the Undertaker It was a forgettable start for Edge as he entered the Elimination Chamber in second position and was pinned by Jeff Hardy which meant that there was a new champion. It was Triple H who had to perform a second pedigree on the Undertaker to win the match.
The Rated R Superstar then went on to do something which no one thought of. Despite being on the SmackDown roster Edge attacked Kofi Kingston and entered the match for the Raw World Heavyweight Championship. This made Edge the first superstar to enter two elimination chambers in one night. In his second match Edge had plenty of waiting time as he entered the Chamber in the fifth position. The match also featured Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio, Kane, Mike Knox and John Cena. It all came down to a spear from Edge that eliminated Mysterio which meant that Edge had won the match and was the World Heavyweight Champion.
Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania XXX
In 2014, it was the fan favorite Daniel Bryan who had two matches at the grandest stages of all. Bryan opened the night going head to head against Triple H. Bryan put on a great performance as he defeated the Game.
The win against Triple H meant that he was in the match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against the champion Randy Orton and Batista. Bryan won his second match as he forced Batista to tap out and win the much-deserved WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt.
Triple H at No Mercy 2007
In this article, we have seen superstars playing twice in a day but what Triple H did at No Mercy will be tough to replicate for any WWE Superstar. Triple H at No Mercy in 2007 fought thrice.
The event started with Vince McMahon awarding the WWE Championship to Randy Orton due to John Cena’s injury. Triple H then challenged Orton for his belt which Orton initially refused. Mr. McMahon then reiterated that Orton would have to defend his title meaning that the opening match was set for Triple H and Randy Orton to go against each other. The match ended as the Game rolled up to Orton and pinned him to become the WWE Champion.
Triple H was already scheduled for a match against Umaga at No Mercy and now the match was for the WWE Championship belt. In the match, both men challenged each other. Triple H performed DDT on Umaga while at one stage Umaga performed a Samoan drop on Triple H. It was a Pedigree from The Game which ended the match as he pinned Umaga and retained his championship.
While Triple H was treating his injured ribs backstage Mr.McMahon came and informed the Game that Randy Orton was invoking his rematch clause. Mr. McMahon scheduled a Last Man Standing match for the Main Event of the night.
Both the men fought their match outside the ring for the most part. Orton even performed DDT and an RKO on the Game in the ring. Triple H’s Pedigree attempt on the table backfired as Orton countered it performing an RKO through the table. The referee counted to ten as Triple H failed to stand meaning that Randy Orton had won the WWE Championship.
