Emma Raducanu advances to her 1st Major Semi-final at US Open 2021

Emma Raducanu, the 18-year-old defeated Tokyo Olympic Champion Belinda Bencic in straight sets

For the British teenager Emma Raducanu, her magical run at the 2021 US Open continues after an excellent performance in the 3rd women’s singles quarter-final in New York.

Emma Raducanu was up against the 11th seed Belinda Bencic from Switzerland at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. In a match that lasted for about 1 hour and 21 minutes, it was the 18-year-old who prevailed against the Olympic gold medalist by a straight-set win 6-3, 6-4.

With this, Emma Raducanu will compete in her 1st major semi-final, where she will face the 17th seed Maria Sakkari from Greece for a place in the final.

Meanwhile, Raducanu has yet not dropped any set en route to her impressive journey at US Open 2021. Having won all her previous matches in two sets.

Emma Raducanu, the World No. 150 attained a few milestones:

She is the only qualifier in the history of the US Open, to reach the semi-finals.

Also, the 4th women qualifier to reach a Grand Slam semi-final.

Became the 1st British woman since Jo Durie in 1983 to reach the semi-final of the US Open.

Joined the likes of Kim Clijsters (2009) and Billie Jean King (1979) to become the 3rd woman outside the Top 100 ranking to reach the semi-finals of the US Open.

Raducanu is also the fourth-youngest woman on her US Open debut to reach the semi-finals.
