Have a look at some of the best catches caught by these best wicket keepers

3 Min Read

Despite being just as important as batting, bowling, or fielding, wicket-keeping is unquestionably one of the most underappreciated aspects of the game. On paper, a keeper has a straightforward job: seize the opportunities that present themselves and keep his team motivated. However, it comes it with its own challenges.

Here’s a list of the best catches by a wicketkeeper:

MS Dhoni

In the contentious 2008 Sydney Test, MS Dhoni made one of his best catches. After numerous lucky breaks, Andrew Symonds scored 162 in the first inning and was batting on 61 in the second. The keeper pounced to his right to make the one-handed catch as the ball flew between Dhoni and first slip. If Dhoni hadn’t stepped in, the ball would have gone to the boundary because the first slip was wide.

Mark Boucher

Throughout his lengthy career, Mark has frequently made outstanding catches. But his attempt to have Sachin Tendulkar returned during the ODI in Belfast in 2007 deserves special attention. Even as the fielder moved into position to make the catch, the ball was already starting to fade in front of the first slip. Boucher, on the other hand, took no chances and threw himself full-length to his right to pull off an amazing feat.

India eventually won the game by six wickets, but Boucher’s catch made it to a YouTube video of best catches.

Nayan Mongia

Nayan Mongia, a former wicketkeeper for India, was a crucial member of the team in the middle and late 1990s. In Manchester’s 1999 World Cup match against Pakistan, Mongia made another standout catch off Kumble’s bowling.

The catch’s beauty was that Mongia executed it while leaning against the stumps. The keeper would have had little more than a fraction of a second to react. However, Mongia was able to catch the ball in perfect condition.

Kumar Sangakkara

Throughout his legendary career, Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara made several challenging catches. However, It is impossible to miss his catch to return Shahid Afridi during the second T20 of Sri Lanka’s tour of the UAE.

The ball appeared to have been lost as keeper Sangakkara caught it after it had been circling in the air for a while. As he dove full stretch to his right at the very last second to grab a stunner.
