Heath Streak, Former Zimbabwe Cricket Legend, Confirmed to be Alive by Henry Olonga

After initial reports of the passing of Zimbabwean cricket legend Heath Streak, his former teammate Henry Olonga has confirmed that Streak is alive. Olonga’s new post refutes the rumors of Streak’s demise and includes a screenshot of their recent conversation. Streak, a recognized figure in Zimbabwe cricket, holds records as an all-rounder and remains the country’s highest wicket-taker in both Tests and ODIs.

Former Zimbabwean cricket star Heath Streak, initially reported to have passed away, has been confirmed as alive by his ex-teammate Henry Olonga. Olonga, in a subsequent update, dismissed the rumors surrounding Streak’s death and shared that he had recently communicated with him.

Olonga’s updated post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) reassured, “I can confirm that rumors about the passing of Heath Streak have been significantly exaggerated. I just heard from him. The third umpire has called him back. He is very much alive, folks.”

The post was accompanied by a screenshot of Olonga’s recent conversation with Streak on WhatsApp, providing tangible evidence of their interaction.

Earlier today, Olonga had posted about Streak’s supposed passing, a post that has since been removed. This initial message led to widespread grief among global cricketers on X.

Streak, a prominent figure in Zimbabwe cricket, had reportedly been undergoing treatment in South Africa after a diagnosis of colon and liver cancer, as shared by friends and close associates.

In Olonga’s earlier post, now deleted, he had lamented the alleged loss of a cricket legend, writing, “Sad news coming through that Heath Streak has crossed to the other side. RIP @ZimCricketv legend. The greatest all-rounder we produced. It was a pleasure playing with you. See you on the other side when my bowling spell comes to an end…”

Streak’s cricket career was illustrious, with 65 Test appearances and 189 ODIs, amassing 4933 runs and securing 455 wickets across formats. Notably, he was the first Zimbabwean cricketer to achieve the milestone of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in Tests, along with 2000 runs and 200 wickets in ODIs.

As a testament to his skill and legacy, Streak continues to hold the record for being Zimbabwe’s highest wicket-taker in both Test matches and ODIs.
