At this point in IPL 2026, several captains have already had an exceptional output. Some notable executives this year include Sunrisers Hyderabad’s captain Ishan Kishan and Royal Challengers Bangalore’s captain Rajat Patidar are two of several examples.
On the contrary there have also been captains who have failed to produce similar output. There is no shortage of individuals working hard and concentrating on returning back to their previous level of success.
IPL 2026 Captains who have underperformed in this season
1. Ruturaj Gaikwad:
Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has played 5 matches in the IPL 2026 season to date. Across 5 innings in these matches, he has scored a mere 63 runs, maintaining a rather dismal batting average of 12.60. Meanwhile, his strike rate during this period has stood at 105.00.
In this ongoing season, his individual scores have been 6, 28, 7, 15, and 7 runs, respectively. Furthermore, his bat has yielded only 5 fours and 1 six throughout the season so far. Consequently, his poor batting form has begun to impact the team’s overall performance.
2. Riyan Parag:
Riyan Parag has taken on the role of captain for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2026 season. The team has been performing consistently well under the leadership of their captain, Riyan Parag; under his guidance, the team has won 4 out of their 5 matches.
While his individual contribution as a player may have been modest, his captaincy has successfully delivered positive results for the team. Additionally, in the IPL 2026 season, he has scored only 49 runs so far, averaging a poor 12.25 with the bat. Meanwhile, during this period, he failed to even reach double digits in three of his innings.
3. Rishabh Pant:
In the 2026 IPL season, the captaincy of the Lucknow Super Giants remains in the hands of Rishabh Pant. However, this time around, the team much like CSK is actively seeking ways to turn its fortunes around. This is because, under Pant’s leadership, the team has managed to win only two of its five matches so far in the 2026 IPL season.
Furthermore, despite batting in the top order this season, wicketkeeper-batsman Pant has not yet been able to perform up to his reputation. So far this season, across five innings, he has scored 104 runs at a batting average of 26.00 and a strike rate of 122.35. In the process, he has managed to register only one half-century with his bat.
