One Day International (ODI) cricket is played between international cricket teams who may be Full Members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) or the top four Associate members of ICC. Ireland was elected as an associate member of the ICC in 1993. But have to wait for more for playing its first ODI match. Despite a lack of high-quality infrastructure in the country, the junior players have given their soul and heart to the game and polished themselves to be better. After playing and performing well in domestic cricket, the players are chosen for playing in international cricket. With time, they also showed their talent in front of the World cricket.

Individual Performance of Ireland Players in ODIs:

A run is a basic parameter for a batter. The performance of the batsman is judged on basis of the runs, they have scored. India’s Sachin Tendulkar is adjudged the best batsman in the world as he scored more runs than anyone in the World. Ireland also has produced some great batsmen over the period such as Paul Stirling, William Potterfield, Kevin O’ Brien, Neil O’ Brien, A Balbirnie, EC Joyce, AR Cusack, EJG Morgan, LJ Tucker, LJ Tucker, AR White, etc. The following are the most runs scored by the team in the ODI Cricket Format.

Top 3 most Run-scorer for Ireland:

Paul Robert Stirling (born 3 September 1990) is the opening batsman for the Ireland cricket team and a part-time right-arm off-break bowler. He is one of the best batsmen for the Ireland team and also enlisted among the top 10 run scorers in T20 international matches. He is also the highest run scorer for the Irish team (5172).

Stirling made his debut in first-class cricket in March 2008. He played for Ireland in the Intercontinental Cup. Stirling made an appearance in One Day Internationals (ODIs) for the first time in the same year. Since then, the right-handed batter proved himself again and again in the international circuit and became one of the greatest names in the world of cricket.

  • William Porterfield:

William Thomas Stuart Porterfield (born 6 September 1984) was the former captain of the Ireland cricket team. The left-handed batsman played for Ireland from 2006 to 2022 and represented his country from the Under-13 level to the senior team. He was the first batter from Ireland, who passed the 1000 runs mark in the T20I.

Potterfield made his debut for Ireland against Namibia in the 2006–07 ICC Intercontinental Cup. Potterfield served brilliantly since then for his team and became the second-highest run-scorer (4343) for his country. He also captained his country successfully. Finally, Potterfield bid farewell to international cricket on 16 June 2022.

  • Kevin O’Brien:

Kevin Joseph O’Brien (born 4 March 1984) was one of the premium all-rounders not for Ireland only, but also in world cricket. Kevin drew the attention of World cricket when he smashed a century in just 50 balls against England in World Cup 2011 and helped his team chase down a record total successfully. He became the first-ever sportsperson from Ireland to represent his country for the 300th time when he took the field against Pakistan in Ireland’s debut test match. Kevin marked the date by scoring another century in that historic test match. Finally, this all-rounder took retirement on 16 August 2022 from international cricket.

Ireland is becoming one of the emerging powerhouses of ODI cricket. They have produced many talented batters over time. Some of them have changed their nationality to play for other countries. One of the biggest examples is former England captain Eoin Morgan. If these batters can perform as per their potential, the team will surely achieve a different feat in the next few years.
