Jabeur Advances to Quarterfinals, Set to Face Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia
Ons Jabeur dominates the Abu Dhabi Open, securing a quarterfinal spot with a straight-sets victory over Emma Raducanu. The Tunisian powerhouse is set to face Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia in the next round.
Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur displayed her formidable skills at the Abu Dhabi Open, securing a spot in the quarterfinals with a straight-sets victory over British player Emma Raducanu. After a closely contested first set, Jabeur elevated her game in the second, overpowering Raducanu with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph.
The match, lasting just one hour and 18 minutes, showcased Jabeur’s prowess as she advanced to the quarterfinals. In the upcoming round, she is set to face Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia, who secured her place with a victory over Magda Linette in the longest WTA main draw match of 2024.
Given a bye in the Round of 32 as one of the tournament’s top seeds, Jabeur made a strong singles comeback, eager to make up for the disappointment of her recent doubles exit with partner Naomi Osaka. The Arab superstar, returning to the Middle East swing after missing events in the region last year due to a knee injury, demonstrated her determination in this singles encounter.
Former World No.2 Jabeur, collecting her second match-win of 2024, previously participated in the Australian Open, where she secured a victory against Yuliia Starodubtseva but faced a defeat against the rising 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva in the subsequent round.
