Manchester United: The English club loses 2-1 away to Swiss champions

Aaron Wan-Bissaka got sent off in the 35th minute of the game. Theoson Siebatcheu scored a late winner in 90+5 minutes after a horrendous mistake from Lingard to give Young Boys all three points.

Manchester United began their Champions League campaign with a shocking defeat to Swiss champions Young Boys 2-1 away from home.

Manchester United opens the scoring

The English club fielded a lineup different from the one against Newcastle United. Greenwood, Matic, and Varane were dropped. Meanwhile, Donny Van de Beek started in the double pivot role along with Fred. Paul Pogba started on the left-hand side of United’s attack.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for Manchester United in the 13th minute from the six-yard box. Bruno Fernandes played a gorgeous outside-of-the-boot pass around the Young Boys defense to a waiting Ronaldo. The Portuguese forward’s shot was straight at the goalkeeper. However, Von Ballmoos, the goalkeeper could not stop the shot from going in.

Ronaldo has now three goals in two appearances since his re-debut for Manchester United. He scored twice against Newcastle United on the weekend.

Lingard’s horrendous blunder

Meanwhile, Young Boys did not fall off from their intensity after conceding a goal. The Swiss champions repeatedly broke through Manchester United’s defense. In the 35th minute of the game, Aaron Wan-Bissaka made a rash tackle and received a straight red card. The dismissal changed the course of the game.  In the 54th minute was brought down in the penalty box as he went through on goal but the referee let the play continue.

Meanwhile, Miami Ngamaleu poked home the equalizing goal for the Young Boys in the 65th minute of the game.

Late in the stoppage time, substitute Jesse Lingard played a loose pass as tried to play a back pass to David De Gea. The ball was hit with very low power and was intercepted by Theoson Siebatcheu who scored the goal to give his side the win.

Manchester United is at the bottom of Group F after matchday one. Meanwhile, Young Boys lead the table as a result of a draw between Atalanta and Villareal in the other game of the group.
