Why Mbappe Won’t Be Playing At Paris Olympics 2024?

The 25-year-old forward had earlier expressed his interest in representing his country at the Paris Olympics 2024, an event he has never been a part of.

France captain Kylian Mbappe is presently in Germany playing at the Euro 2024. After his stint at the European championship, Mbappe was expected to compete at the Paris Olympics 2024 before his home crowd. But this is unlikely to happen, as the super striker has confirmed that we would not be playing the summer event.

Mbappe, who recently left Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for Real Madrid, would start camping with his new club and therefore, be unavailable for national duties. Real Madrid has blocked its players from participating at the Paris Olympics 2024.

The French star performer accepted the decision of his new club.

Paris Olympics 2024 Not-To-Be

“For the Olympics my club has a position which is very clear. So that means I think I will not participate in the Olympics. That is how it is, said Mbappe.

The 25-year-old forward had earlier expressed his interest in representing his country at the Olympics, an event he has never been a part of. After having conversations with Real Madrid, it was agreed upon that it would be inadvisable for him to feature in two big international events back-to-back.

“My club’s position is very clear, and I understand that I will not be there. I understand my club’s position as I am a newcomer. I hope we win the Games”, Mbappe added.

Mbappe’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain ends on June 30 after which he would be tied up to the Spanish club. The new Champions League champions have also ruled out any involvement of their French players – including Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga- at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Why Mbappe Won’t Be Playing At The Paris Olympics 2024?

According to reports, French President Emmanuel Macron tried to contact Real Madrid to allow Mbappe to take part at the Paris games, but in vain.

The Paris Olympics 2024 will begin on 26 July, 10 days after the end of the Euro Championship. Right after the Euros, Mbappe would be resuming his pre-season camping with his new club.
