Mumbai To Goa To Mumbai: Yashaswi Jaiswal’s Evolving Domestic Journey

India’s young batting star Yashasvi Jaiswal has made a sudden U-turn in his domestic cricket plans. After deciding to leave the Mumbai team and play for Goa from the 2025-26 season, Jaiswal has now requested to cancel that decision. He wants to stay with Mumbai and continue playing for the team he grew up with.

First He Chose Goa, Then He Changed His Mind

A few weeks ago, Jaiswal had asked the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to move to Goa. Reports said Goa had offered him a captaincy role and a key position in their Ranji Trophy team. Goa had just entered the Elite Division, so they were looking to build a strong side.

At the time, Jaiswal said,

“Goa has thrown me a new opportunity and has offered me a leadership role. My first goal will be to do well for India and whenever I’m not on national duty, I will be playing for Goa and try to make them go deep into the tournament. This was an (important) opportunity which came my way and I just took it,” Jaiswal had told The Indian Express in April.

But things have now changed.

Why He Wants to Stay in Mumbai Now

Jaiswal has written to the MCA again, saying he no longer wants to move to Goa. In his email, he explained that the family plans that made him think about shifting to Goa are now on hold.

He wrote,

“I the undersigned would request your goodself to consider my request in withdrawing my NOC given to me as I had some family plans in shifting to Goa which for now has been curtailed ! So I sincerely request MCA to allow me to play for Mumbai this season ! I have not submitted the NOC to BCCI nor to Goa Cricket Association.”

This means the move wasn’t official yet. He only got the NOC from MCA but didn’t complete the transfer.

MCA Hasn’t Decided Yet

So far, the Mumbai Cricket Association hasn’t given a final answer. After granting the NOC earlier, they had already started making their plans without Jaiswal. He wasn’t included in Mumbai’s T20 League matches either unlike players like Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, and Ajinkya Rahane who all played.
