Seasoned Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has recalled his unabated ambition to play for Pakistan at the 2027 ODI World Cup despite being recalled from the recent tour of Australia. Speaking during the second day’s play of the second Test against West Indies in Delhi, Jadeja discussed the reasons for being left out and reaffirmed his loyalty to the national side.

Selectors and Captain Spoke Before Squad Announcement

Jadeja explained that his exclusion was not unexpected. The selectors, captain to be, Shubman Gill, and the team management had a discussion with him before the team announcement, according to him.

“[Selection] is not in my hands. I want to play, for sure,” Jadeja said at his press conference after the second day’s play against West Indies in the Delhi Test. “[At the] end of the day, team management, selectors, coach and captain have their thoughts and they will have their reasons for not selecting me for this series. They have talked to me, it was not a surprise for me after the squad was announced. Ravindra Jadeja explained.

Agarkar had previously said that it was tough to fit two left-arm spinners for the Australian conditions, and this was a consideration in the selection.

Aimed at 2027 World Cup Target

Even at 39 by the time of the next ODI World Cup in 2027, Jadeja is optimistic of wearing the Indian jersey on the global stage again.

“It is a good thing that they communicated the reason behind my omission. I am happy about that. But whenever I get a chance next, I will try and do what I have done all these years. If I get a chance in the World Cup and there are many ODIs before and if I do well there, it will be a good thing for Indian cricket. Winning a World Cup is everyone’s dream. We had narrowly missed out the last time, the next time we will try and make up for it.

Ravindra Jadeja, one of the members of the team that went down in the 2023 World Cup final against Australia, feels that there’s still business left to attend to.

Impact in the Current Test Series

Jadeja has kept delivering in the Tests, taking three wickets in the current second Test against the West Indies. Although he has yet to bat in the match, his bowling has already placed India on firm ground.

“The pitch is not turning much so far. The bounce is low, and you need to use your shoulder more. You should mix the pace and not bowl too slowly, or the batters settle quickly,” he broke down.

He also pointed out that dismantling the ongoing partnership on Day 3 will be crucial if India are to take the upper hand.

India Preferred Slow Turners Over Rank Turners

Addressing queries regarding preparation for pitch, Ravindra Jadeja affirmed that the Indian side has consciously chosen to play on slow-turning pitches as opposed to rank turners.

“We have not requested turning tracks from Day 1. We needed slow turners where the pitch gets worse slowly. This way, we are tested and have to work harder to get our wickets.”

He feels that it assists bowlers in being disciplined and appeals for long, skillful spells as opposed to being dependent on pitch help.

Appreciation for Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill

Jadeja also complimented the centurions Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performances, appreciating their maturity and mindset at the crease.

“Shubman Gill has been in incredible form since taking over as captain. That’s a very good omen for Indian cricket. On Jaiswal, he’s very astute with his shot selection. He takes on certain bowlers and runs others out, displaying great maturity.”

He further stated that the young Indian players today take responsibility and score long innings something that would do Indian cricket well in the future.

Ravindra Jadeja’s Experience Still Relevant

Despite not being in the present ODI schemes, Ravindra Jadeja is still an important player in Indian cricket. His performances in Test cricket, fitness level, and appetite for victory make him a future contender for 50-over competitions. With India building up a young group, Jadeja’s experience and ability to bounce back would be crucial, with the 2027 ODI World Cup just around the corner.
