Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez has been handed a three-game suspension following his red card challenge on Girona winger ‘Portu’ during last Saturday’s La Liga match.

Nacho was sent off in the closing moments of the game, where Real Madrid was leading 3-0, for a high, studs-up tackle on the forward. Initially shown a yellow card, the VAR later upgraded the decision to a red card, as reported by Xinhua.

Portu was immediately taken to the hospital and has been diagnosed with a bone edema in his right ankle and a torn left gluteus muscle. There is no confirmed return date for his return to action.

Nacho’s suspension will result in him missing Real Madrid’s upcoming LaLiga matches, including the home game against Osasuna this weekend, the visit to Sevilla on October 21, and the first “Clasico” of the season when Real Madrid faces FC Barcelona away the following weekend.

With David Alaba currently sidelined due to injury and Eder Militao likely to be out for the season, Nacho’s suspension comes at a busy time for the club. However, he remains eligible to play in European competitions.
