Suresh Raina announces his retirement from all formats of cricket including IPL

Former Indian player, Suresh Raina has now announced his retirement from all formats of the game. The eminent batter represented Uttar Pradesh in the domestic leagues. Moreover, Raina, famously known as Mr. IPL has been a pivotal part of the Chennai Super Kings in the league until 2021. However, the cricketer went unsold in the 2022 mega-auction, much to the audience’s shock.

And now, on Tuesday, the 6th of September, months after IPL’s wrap, Raina took to Twitter to announce his retirement from the league and other formats. Suresh Raina announced his retirement from International cricket back in 2020, on the 15th of August. Raina’s retirement came shortly following MS Dhoni’s retirement from the format.

The 35-years-old batter has delivered many commendable scores for the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. Raina, referenced famously as Chinna Thala by the CSK fans assisted the team in all of their 4 season-winning campaigns, down right to the 2021 season. However, come the 2022 mega-auction, the CSK management pulled a confusing and shocking move of not retaining or even buying their Chinna Thala, much to the fans’ chagrin.

Suresh Raina retires from IPL

Announcing his retirement today, Raina wrote on Twitter, “It has been an absolute honour to represent my country & state UP. I would like to announce my retirement from all formats of cricket.” However, this doesn’t indicate of him rendering all ties with the game. The latest reports suggest that Raina is very much interested in participating in an overseas league.

“I want to continue playing cricket for two or three years,” said Raina in a recent interview. Elaborating further he notified, “There are some exciting youngsters who are coming through the ranks of Uttar Pradesh cricket. I have already taken my No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA). And I have informed BCCI secretary Jay Shah and vice-president Rajiv Shukla about my decision.”

“I will play in the Road Safety Series. T20 franchises from South Africa, Sri Lanka, and UAE have contacted me but I am yet to take any decision,” he cleared.

Suresh Raina will continue to play the game, however, his exit from IPL has saddened the fans. As soon as Raina declared his retirement, fans poured in their emotions and wishes for the adorned cricketer.
