TOKYO OLYMPICS 2021: India’s men’s hockey team lost to Belgium in the semi-final, will prepare for a bronze medal match

India’s men’s hockey team has failed to reach the finals as they lost in the semi-final of the Tokyo Olympics to Belgium that happened on Tuesday. The men’s hockey team which is led by Manpreet Singh were in a good position at the start of the match and was also leading 2-1 in the first quarter. The 2018 world champions Belgium maximized the opportunities that came their way, especially the penalty corners which the Indian team was unable to prevent. In the end, it cost them the match as they lost to Belgium 2-5.

India’s men’s hockey team is not yet knocked out of the tournament. They can still compete for the bronze medal match where they have to face either Australia or Germany. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the efforts of the men’s hockey team and wished the team the best of luck for the bronze medal match.

“Wins and losses are a part of life. Our Men’s Hockey Team at #Tokyo 2020 gave their best and that is what counts “, PM Modi wrote on Twitter.

“Wishing the Team the very best for the next match and their future endeavors. India is proud of our players”, he added.

Alexander Hendrickx did the magic for Belgium as he scored the hat-trick goals out of which two goals came in the final quarter. Amit Rohitas was looking excellent in defense, as he tried his best and put his body on the line on numerous occasions to prevent the goal from a penalty corner.

The major reason for India’s men’s hockey team defeat is the number of penalty corners they conceded during that match. Belgium’s team took this as a golden opportunity and turned the momentum completely in their favor as India was unable to prevent their goals from going in.
