The Ireland Cricket team is said to represent all of Ireland in international cricket matches. However, the Irish Cricket Union which is operating under the brand Cricket Ireland is recognised as the sport’s governing body in Ireland, and further organises the international team.
As per reports, cricket was introduced to Ireland during the 19th century, and the first match played by an Ireland team was in the year of 1855. Moreover, the team is said to have travelled in Canada and the United States during the late 19th century, as well as occasionally managed to host matches against touring sides. Besides being a strong competitor, there were several occasions when the team was defeated by other teams with a margin of few runs.\

Rather than the above-mentioned matches, there have been similar competitive encounters where the team failed to win even after putting in a lot of effort. Despite being a strong contender, the team was defeated by other countries in the similar manner.
