Unbelievable bowling performance in the BBL

The Big Bash League or BBL is Australia’s premier domestic T20 tournament. Here is a look at an unbelievable performance in the BBL.

Australia is one of those where bowlers can get assistance from fast and bouncy pitches and the fast bowlers can take full toll because of that and wreak havoc on the batting team. Here is a look at one of the most unbelievable bowling performances in the BBL.

In the 2022-23 season of the Big Bash League, Adelaide Strikers scored 139 runs in the first innings which is a well below-par total on almost any pitch. But what followed in the second innings couldn’t have been imagined by anyone.

Home team Sydney Thunders walked to bat in the second innings and were dismissed for just 15 runs inside the first 6 overs in a bizarre manner.

Matthew Short, right-arm off-spinner opened the bowling for Adelaide Strikers and took the wicket of Matthew Gikes for a duck in the very first over. Henry Thornton took the new ball from the opposite end and took two wickets in his first over. The right-arm pacer took the wickets of Rilee Rossuow and the opposition captain, Jason Sangha. Short was replaced by Wes Agar after just one over. Agar in his first over also took two wickets. These wickets were of Alex Hales and Daniel Sams.

Henry Thornton and Wes Agar

Thornton and Agar bowling in tandem troubled the Adelaide Strikers batters even further. In three overs the Strikers had lost half of their side for just 9 runs.

Thornton in his next over dismissed Alex Ross. In the next over, Wes Agar took two wickets and conceded the first and only boundary of the innings.

Thornton put an end to Sydney Thunders’s misery as he took two wickets in the next over. The Sydney Thunders team was dismissed for the record lowest total in the BBL history as they lost their 10 wickets for just 15 runs. Adelaide Strikers’ wicket-keeper, Harry Nielsen took 5 catches in the match. Henry Thornton was awarded the Man of the Match for his 5 wicket haul while giving away just three runs in 2.5 overs.

They held the record of the lowest total T20 total for some time. It was in February of this year that Sydney Thunders’s forgettable record was broken when the Isle of Man was dismissed for just 10 runs against Spain.
