WWE Backlash 2025 is shaping up to be a major event, with stars like Becky Lynch and Jey Uso already announced. But one name missing from the card is Roman Reigns. After losing his top spot at WrestleMania 41, it’s becoming clear that Reigns may not be part of this next big show in St. Louis.

While fans still wonder what’s next for The Tribal Chief, here are five simple reasons why Roman Reigns is most likely skipping Backlash 2025 and why it actually makes sense.

1. He Lost at WrestleMania and Has No Title Now

At WrestleMania 41, Roman Reigns didn’t win. He had a strong showing, but in the end, Seth Rollins and CM Punk came out on top. Since he’s no longer a champion, he doesn’t have a reason to be part of the upcoming Premium Live Events (PLEs) like Backlash.

Usually, champions are expected to appear more often, especially at big shows. But Reigns, without gold around his waist, isn’t required to show up like he used to.

2. He Was Taken Out on RAW Right After WrestleMania

After WrestleMania, Reigns was attacked during RAW. Bron Breakker delivered a brutal spear to him, and Rollins hit a stomp. This looked like a clear way to write Reigns off TV.

In WWE, when a top star is attacked like that, they usually stay off-screen for a while. It keeps the attack meaningful and gives time for a surprise return later. That’s likely what WWE is doing here saving his comeback for a bigger stage like SummerSlam.

3. He’s Now a Part-Time Wrestler

Roman Reigns is no longer a full-time WWE Superstar. In recent years, he’s been wrestling less and only appears at the biggest events. Backlash, while important, isn’t seen on the same level as WrestleMania or SummerSlam.

WWE has a pattern with stars like Reigns, Brock Lesnar, and Logan Paul they show up for only a few shows a year. SummerSlam is expected to be one of those next big events, so we’ll probably see Reigns again there.

4. Seth Rollins’ Faction Has Moved On

Another sign that Reigns won’t appear at Backlash is that the current top storyline has shifted. Seth Rollins and his new faction are now targeting Sami Zayn, not Roman.

This means the story has moved on for now. WWE likely wants to focus on this new feud while letting the Reigns storyline cool down before it returns with more drama and hype.

5. He Took a Break Last Year Too

Reigns has done this before. Last year, after losing the Undisputed WWE Championship, he took a long break. He didn’t return until SummerSlam four months later.

This has become his usual routine. He appears at WrestleMania, disappears, and then comes back just in time for SummerSlam. If WWE follows that same pattern in 2025, it’s no surprise we won’t see him at Backlash.
