Cody Rhodes has been one of the biggest stars in WWE’s current era. Since Triple H took over the creative side, The American Nightmare has been presented as the face of the company and now holds the Undisputed WWE Championship.

While Cody has done a great job in his role, many signs suggest that WWE should start preparing for life beyond him. Here are three big reasons why it may be the right time to move away from Cody Rhodes as the centrepiece.

3. WWE needs fresh main event talent

Cody has been featured as the main star for quite some time, and while he’s popular, repeating the same formula can make things stale. WWE has many rising names waiting for their chance to shine in the spotlight.

By moving on from Rhodes, the company can give younger or less established talent a bigger role in the main event picture. This shift could add excitement, unpredictability, and freshness to WWE’s weekly shows.

2. His biggest story is already complete

Cody’s journey in WWE was built on the famous “Finish the Story” arc. From his emotional return to his chase for Roman Reigns’ title, everything led to that once-in-a-lifetime WrestleMania moment where he finally became champion.

After reaching that peak, it’s hard to top the storyline. He even stood toe-to-toe with The Rock in a feud that grabbed mainstream attention. That was likely the high point of his WWE story, and anything after may not feel as impactful. This is why WWE should think about moving him into a different role, rather than keeping him as the central figure.

1. Growing disconnect with the audience

Even though Cody is supposed to be a babyface, he hasn’t always been cheered like one. In fact, there have been several occasions where live crowds turned on him and supported his opponents instead.

At SummerSlam 2025, when he faced John Cena in a title rematch, many fans booed Cody and cheered Cena. Even on Monday Night RAW, when Roman Reigns casually mentioned Cody’s name, the audience reacted with negativity instead of cheers.

This trend shows that fans may be getting tired of Cody as the top guy, which could hurt both his character and the company if it continues.
