One of the main events during WrestleMania weekend over the years has been the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. But before we honor different wrestlers, famous entrants, and the most recent Warrior Award winner, let’s take a look at what is WWE Hall of Fame.
The WWE Hall of Fame is a WWE-maintained hall of fame that honors professional wrestlers and pro wrestling personalities. When André the Giant was the only inductee that year and received a posthumous induction with a video package, the “WWF Hall of Fame”—as it was originally called—was established. The annual King of the Ring pay-per-view events served as the backdrop for the ceremonies in 1994, 1995, and 1996, while the Survivor Series served as the event’s companion in 1996.
In this article, we will talk about the superstars who were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame 2023.
-
Rey Mysterio
Rey Mysterio’s induction into the WWE Hall of Fame was always a matter of “when,” not “if,” and it has finally happened for the hugely renowned Hispanic wrestler. The high-flying luchador has been captivating audiences of all ages for more than 30 years with his amazing in-ring prowess, fan-favorite persona, and collection of hand-crafted masks (as well as the legendary WrestleMania costume). Mysterio has competed in some of the most renowned promotions in the world of professional wrestling, including runs in NJPW, ECW, WCW, AAA, CMLL, and WWE. During these runs, he had illustrious feuds with Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, Batista, and just about every other significant wrestler in existence.
A further honor was added to Mysterio’s vast list of accomplishments in March when it was announced by WWE that he would be the first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame, class of 2023.
-
The Greate Muta
The Great Muta, a former Japanese wrestler who also went by the name Keiji Muto, is more than deserving of a place in the WWE Hall of Fame despite never having entered a WWE ring during the course of his nearly 40-year career. The Great Muta was a dominant figure in the international scene from 1984 until the beginning of 2023. He introduced the influential Puroresu style to spectators and wrestlers all over the world with his distinctive face paint, a cutting-edge arsenal of offensive and defensive attacks and holds, and that recognizable green and red mist.
The Great Muta would be inducted into the Hall of Fame prior to WrestleMania 39, according to a WWE announcement made two months after his retirement.
-
Andy Kaufman
No other famous person who has been associated with professional wrestling deserves a place in the WWE Hall of Fame more than Andy Kaufman, save from Cyndi Lauper.
But before Kaufman rose to prominence as the biggest heel in Memphis wrestling history, he made a name for himself as a terrible bad guy who proclaimed himself the “Women’s Wrestling Champion of the World.”
-
Stacy Keibler
Throughout her in-ring career, Stacy Keibler made an impact on the sport of professional wrestling wherever she turned, including two memorable runs in WCW and WWE during the Ruthless Aggression Era.
Additionally, Keibler engaged in some memorable feuds with WWE Hall of Famers Trish Stratus, Lita, Molly Holly, and a number of other prominent performers, further solidifying her legend.
-
Tim White
Every year, WWE recognizes an individual who, via their work in the ring or behind the camera, has a significant influence on professional wrestling and society. The late Tim White, a longtime WWE referee who worked some of the most memorable matches in the company’s history, including The Undertaker and Mankind’s iconic Hell in a Cell match at King of the Ring ’98, numerous WrestleMania main events, and countless others, has been named the recipient of this year’s Warrior Award.
Unfortunately, White passed away in June 2022—less than a year before WWE revealed that he would be joining the ranks of Andre the Giant, his lifelong friend and former traveling companion.
The 2023 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony will be streamed for anybody with a Peacock Premium subscription at 10 p.m. on Friday, March 31. Expect to see additional names announced before then.
