Saweety and Jaismine Secure Titles at National Boxing Championships

In a display of exceptional prowess, reigning world champion Saweety Boora (81kg) and 2022 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Jaismine (60kg) emerged victorious at the 7th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championships held at the GBU Indoor Stadium.

The Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) continued their dominant performance, securing their fourth consecutive team championship title with an impressive haul of eight medals, including five gold, one silver, and two bronze.

Representing Haryana, Saweety Boora showcased her dominance in the 81kg category, securing a comfortable 5-0 win against Lalfakmawii Ralte from Mizoram. Meanwhile, Jasmine, competing for the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), faced a tough battle against Punjab’s Simranjit Kaur Baatth but secured a narrow 4-3 victory.

The RSPB boxers clinched five gold medals out of six finalists. Notable victories included Anamika (50kg), Jyoti (48kg), Shiksha (54kg), Sonia Lather (57kg), and Nupur (81+kg). The only silver for RSPB came from Nandini (75kg), who faced a tough challenge against 2020 Tokyo Olympian Pooja Rani of Haryana.

Jaismine’s outstanding performance earned her the title of Best Boxer in the championship. Team Uttar Pradesh received the Fair Play award, with Sonia winning the Best Challenger award, and Lalita of Rajasthan being honored as the Best Promising boxer.

In an intense battle between two Youth World Champions, Arundhati Choudhary of SSCB secured a 5-0 victory against Ankushita Boro of Assam, marking SSCB’s second gold medal in the tournament.

The championship witnessed thrilling competition with over 300 boxers competing in 12 categories, reinforcing the strength and talent in women’s boxing in India.
