BGT: India batted first against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after winning the toss and scored just 150 runs. In this sequence, some such records were registered in the name of Indian batsmen, which they would like to forget soon. However, Rishabh Pant has also made a great record as a wicketkeeper-batsman.
Unwanted records made on the 1st day of the Perth Test BGT
– India was bowled all out for a total of 150 runs in the first innings in Perth, thereby making it the joint-lowest score on Australian soil in Test matches. Earlier this year, India was bowled all out for 150 runs in the first innings after winning the toss and choosing to bat first in Sydney in 2000. India’s lowest total for the first innings in Australia was recorded as 58 in Brisbane in 1947 when they batted second.

– This is the third time a side has been bowled out for under 200 after winning the toss and batting first in the first Test of an Australian Test series. England in 1958 and 2021, and Sri Lanka in 2019’s day-night Test, were all bowled out for 134, 144, and 147, respectively.
– India has been bowled out for less than 150 on five occasions in 2024. There have only been two instances when India has been bowled out for less than 160 more times in a calendar year. India was bowled out for less than 160 on six occasions in 1952 and 1959.
– Rishabh Pant has so far scored 661 runs in Tests against Australia, the highest by any visiting wicketkeeper on Australian soil, breaking Alan Knott’s record of 643. Pant has batted in 13 innings in Australia and has gone on to score more than 23 runs each time.

– 18 Indian Test batsmen were dismissed for zero in 2024. Devdutt Padikkal is the latest to join the list. It is the highest duck by an Indian batsman in any calendar year. In 1983 and 2008, 17 batsmen scored zero.

– Seven batsmen have made the highest score for India when batting at number 8 or lower on Test debut. Nitish Kumar Reddy is added to this list. Only two players have achieved this in the last 70 years – Stuart Binny against England in 2014 and Balwinder Sandhu against Pakistan in 1983.
– 26 batsmen have scored more than 3000 runs in Indian Test cricket. Now KL Rahul also makes his way to this list. He crossed that benchmark in Perth on Friday. His current batting average stands at 33.78, the third lowest among these 26 players. Ravichandran Ashwin and Kapil Dev have a lower average than him at 25.92 and 31.05 respectively.
– Combined wickets of four bowlers, -Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Nathan Lyon, have taken 505 wickets in 31 Test matches. Together, they have made this history by being the first quartet to take more than 500 wickets in Test cricket. Only players who have taken 100+ Test wickets are included in this quartet. Cummins has the most wickets with 132, while Hazlewood, Starc, and Lyon have 126, 125, and 122 wickets respectively.

– In Test cricket for the first time, Cummins dismissed Pant. Till now, Pant has faced Cummins in 12 innings and in those innings, he has scored 104 runs off 168 balls. He also hit a sixer along with 10 fours.
