Young left-handed batter Tilak Varma has achieved a remarkable milestone by scoring his third consecutive century in T20 cricket. The 22-year-old displayed his brilliant form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy’s opening match for Hyderabad against Meghalaya. This Group A match took place at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Saturday, November 23, 2024.

Batting at No. 3 as the team captain, Tilak entered early in the first over after Rahul Singh’s dismissal by Akash Choudhary. Partnering with Tanmay Agarwal, the duo put together a massive 122-run stand, giving Hyderabad a strong start.

His standout performances during India’s 3-1 T20 series win over South Africa, where he scored back-to-back centuries, have propelled him to No. 3 in the ICC T20I rankings. He now stands as India’s highest-ranked T20I batter, surpassing Suryakumar Yadav, who has slipped to fourth after a quieter series.
