IND vs NZ: Virat Kohli creates history, becomes the 7th Indian player to play 300 ODIs

Virat Kohli Creates History, Becomes 7th Indian to Play 300 ODIs: Virat Kohli created a big record in the match against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025. This legendary batsman of Indian cricket has completed 300 matches in ODI cricket, and he has become the seventh player from India to do so. With this achievement, he has once again included himself in the category of cricket legends. Let’s know about the records of Virat Kohli’s ODI career.

Virat Kohli’s ODI stats

Let us tell you that Virat Kohli has scored 14085 runs in 288 innings of 300 ODIs. Kohli is the batsman who has scored the most centuries (51) in this format. Apart from this, he also has 73 half-centuries, 1318 fours, and 152 sixes to his name. He has an impressive average of 58.2, which is a dream for any great batsman in ODI cricket.

Third highest run scorer

Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for scoring the most runs in ODI cricket. Sachin has scored 18426 runs in 463 ODIs. At number two is Sri Lanka’s great wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara, who scored 14234 runs in 404 ODIs. Virat Kohli is third in this list with 14085 runs and is just 149 runs away from breaking Sangakkara’s record.

6 great players who played more than 300 ODIs for India

Before Virat, only 6 Indian batsmen have achieved the distinction of playing 300 or more ODIs. Sachin Tendulkar tops this list, who scored 18426 runs in 463 ODIs. After him comes Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who scored 10599 runs in 347 ODIs.

At number three is Rahul Dravid, who scored 10768 runs in 340 matches. Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin scored 9378 runs in 334 ODIs. Sourav Ganguly has scored 11221 runs in 308 ODIs. Yuvraj Singh scored 8609 runs in 301 ODIs.   Now if Kohli plays two more ODIs, he will become the sixth player to play the most ODIs for India, leaving Yuvraj Singh behind.

22nd player in the world to play 300 ODIs

Virat Kohli has become the 22nd cricketer not only in India but in the whole world to play 300 ODIs. It is clear from this that his cricket career is continuously reaching new heights and many more big records are going to be added to his name in the coming days.

Looking at Virat Kohli’s performance, it would not be wrong to say that in the coming times, he is going to take Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries even further. Also, he can leave behind Sangakkara and become the second highest run scorer in ODIs.
