Rishabh Pant’s team, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), played their last league match of IPL 2025 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Tuesday, May 27.
LSG lost the match to RCB by 6 wickets at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Rishabh Pant Reflects on Team’s Performance and Challenges
Batting first, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) posted a massive total of 227/3, powered by outstanding knocks from Rishabh Pant (118*) and Mitchell Marsh (67). However, their bowlers failed to defend the target, as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) chased it down in just 18.4 overs.

After the match, LSG captain Rishabh Pant admitted that the team fell short across both innings and emphasized the importance of performing well throughout the game. He said:
“Eventually you got to play 40 overs of good cricket. 20 overs will definitely not save you in a T20 game and that’s been our story. There were a lot of injury concerns before the tournament, that’s something that hurt us going through the season.”
Speaking about his century, Pant explained that he focused on turning a good start into a big score:
“(On his hundred) I was feeling well with each and every match but sometimes it just doesn’t come off. Today I made sure that if I am starting well I should make a big one. Like all the experienced players do, learning from the best always.”
He also shared his approach during the innings:
“Whenever you get a start, try to make it big as possible. I was trying to play the field, how they were going to bowl, that was something I kept in mind. Playing through the line and looking for the areas and the gaps and kept it very simple. Played every ball with the same intensity and kept on playing with the same intensity throughout the innings.”
Rishabh Pant also mentioned that the team needs to work on several areas to perform better in the next IPL season. He said:
“(On this season) There’ll be a lot of areas where we’ll be talking and looking to improve ourselves but the season is just ending, don’t know where the talk is going to go. Just want to switch off for a few days, not think about cricket and then the England series is coming up and just preparing for that in a good frame of mind.”

Standout Performers: Praise for Digvesh Rathi and Others
Looking back at the positives from LSG’s IPL 2025 campaign, Pant praised the overall effort and highlighted a few standout players, especially Digvesh Rathi. He said:
“(On the positives) The way our batting unit has come up, there have been some special bowling performances also. Digvesh Rathi is one of them, Avesh bowled some crucial overs. We’ve been getting chances but we weren’t able to maintain it for a longer period of time.”

Now some people will hate Digvesh Rathi just because he used a game rule.
Grow up kids. He was the most economic bowler of LSG. And Umpires robbed his one wicket too. pic.twitter.com/EZL5kJ4dq5
