South Africa Name Squads for England White-Ball Tour: Cricket South Africa (CSA) has named their men’s squads for the upcoming white-ball series against England, set to begin next month. Temba Bavuma will captain the ODI side, while Aiden Markram takes charge in the T20 format.

England will host the Proteas for six matches between September 2 and 14, with three ODIs followed by three T20Is. England’s Harry Brook, who was appointed captain earlier this year, will continue to lead his side in both formats.

South Africa head into this tour after a successful run in Australia, where they currently lead the ODI series 2-0.

Big Names Return for Proteas for England White-Ball Tour

There are a few big comebacks for the Proteas. Keshav Maharaj returns to the T20 squad after being left out of the last two series. Lizaad Williams and Marco Jansen are also back, with Jansen recovering from thumb surgery after the World Test Championship final. Meanwhile, David Miller and Donovan Ferreira will join the squad once they finish their commitments in The Hundred.

Some senior players, however, have missed out. Rassie van der Dussen, George Linde, and Nqaba Peter are not part of the T20I squad, while offspinner Prenelan Subrayen has been sidelined due to a pending action review.

Squad Balance and Injury Watch

The ODI squad is largely unchanged from the one that beat Australia. Kagiso Rabada’s fitness will be closely monitored, with Kwena Maphaka named as cover for him. His availability for the T20Is will be reassessed in England.

South Africa’s coach Shukri Conrad explained the selection calls, saying that Maharaj’s return was always in the plans.

“We were experimenting with the spin-bowling allrounders in our most recent T20I series, and Keshav was always part of our broader plans,” Conrad said in a statement. “His return to the squad strengthens our spin options. Beyond his obvious skill with the ball, he brings calmness and leadership to the group.”

On Rabada’s recovery, Conrad added, “We are hopeful that he (Rabada) will be available for part of the ODI series. But we are prioritising T20I cricket and will take a conservative approach. We won’t rush him back.”
