BAN vs HK: Bangladesh (BAN) began their Asia Cup 2025 journey with a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Hong Kong (HK) in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. Although the BAN vs HK match was predicted to be one-sided, it proved to be a close challenge for Bangladesh. Litton Das won the player of the match award for his half-century knock.

BAN vs HK: Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy Anchor the Chase

Litton Das guided the run-chase excellently with a match-winning 59 from 39 balls, ably supported by Towhid Hridoy, who remained not out on 35. Bangladesh needed to chase 144 and lost both openers within the powerplay, but a decisive 95-run third-wicket association between Litton and Hridoy made it an easy win.

Having started cautiously, Litton lifted the tempo, from 26 off 24 to fifty off 33, ultimately attaining a strike rate of 151.28. He was bowled when only two runs were needed, but his work had been accomplished.

Hong Kong Improve But Fall Short Again

Hong Kong improved substantially from their last game, where they were limited to 94/9 by Afghanistan. In this BAN vs HK encounter, they accumulated a gritty total of 143/7 owing to:

Nizakat Khan: 42 (coming in and taking charge of the innings)

Zeeshan Ali: 30 (calming the middle order)

Yasim Murtaza: 28 off 19 (punishing cameo as captain)

Even with an improved batting show, failure to build momentum at crucial stages and Bangladesh’s steady bowling did not allow them to post a winning score.

Litton, Hridoy Show Tactical Genius Between Wickets

Bangladesh’s batting included wise running between the wickets, which proved to be the turning point. In the absence of a middle-overs boundary streak, the pair hit 11 twos, out of the team’s overall 16 twos, the second-most by Bangladesh in T20Is.

Their strike rotation kept the required run rate in control, and once Hong Kong’s intensity dropped, Litton unleashed two boundaries in the 13th over to tilt the momentum decisively.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib Sets the Tone Early with the Ball

In preparation for the run-chase, Bangladesh’s bowlers set the stage. Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who was clocking the early 140s kph, dismissed Babar Hayat with a lovely inswinger and then sent Zeeshan Ali packing with a well-aimed short ball. He finished with a fine 2/21 in 4 overs.

Taskin Ahmed contributed crucial wickets during the powerplay and in the death overs, while Rishad Hossain, under pressure early on, regained form with a twin strike in the 19th over by sending back Nizakat Khan and Kinchit Shah off consecutive balls.

Hong Kong Show Promise But Miss Big Hits

During this BAN vs HK game, Hong Kong had phases of stability but did not have the push to score a larger total. A 41-run partnership between Nizakat and Zeeshan provided them with a foundation, but an important run-out of captain Yasim Murtaza their 47th since 2023 suddenly brought progress.

Though they made 54 runs in the last six overs, their failure to discover boundaries regularly in the middle overs, and death bowling by Bangladesh, kept them under par.

BAN vs HK: Match Summary
