Bangladesh Squad: Nasum Ahmed In ODI Team For West Indies Series

3 Min Read

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made a tactical addition to their ODI team for the current series against the West Indies. Nasum Ahmed, the left-arm spinner, has joined the team, in response to a sensational performance by the spinners in the first match of the series. Below is a rundown of the recent news on the Bangladesh team and the preparation of the team for the second and third ODIs.

Nasum Ahmed’s Return to the Bangladesh ODI Team

In a major team change, the BCB on Sunday, October 19, officially confirmed that Nasum Ahmed would come back to the Bangladesh ODI team for the series against the West Indies. The 30-year-old left-arm bowler, who has a record of taking 16 wickets in 18 ODIs at an economy rate of an incredible 4.48, has not featured in an ODI since December 2024.

Nasum’s return follows the success of the role played by spinners in the series opener. The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) pitch in Mirpur was termed as low and slow, heavily favouring the bowlers who could get spin out of the pitch.

Spinners Dominate in the Series Opener

The Bangladesh team witnessed a good show by their spinners in the first ODI as both sides employed spin to rule the game. West Indies’ left-arm spinner Khary Pierre bowled a great spell, taking 1-19 in 10 overs, and off-spinner Roston Chase snatched two wickets.

The Bangladesh spin attack, however, was outstanding. Rishad Hossain and Tanvir Islam were the heroes, taking a combined eight wickets between them, which gave Bangladesh a convincing victory. Their showing on the slow pitch obviously made the selection committee think seriously about including Nasum Ahmed in the team for the coming games.

Bangladesh Leads the Series 1-0

With their win in the first ODI, Bangladesh is now 1-0 up in the three-match series. The hosts fought hard, and their spinners proved to be the game-changers in terms of limiting the West Indies. The second and third ODIs are slated for October 21 and 23, 2025, at the same venue, Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
