IND vs AUS: India sealed a 2-1 T20I series victory over Australia after the fifth and final match at Brisbane’s Gabba was washed out owing to heavy rain and thunderstorms. Despite an exciting start with Shubman Gill’s sublime batting upfront, the weather had the final say and ended the contest prematurely.
Dominant Start by India Before Rain Takes Over in 5th IND vs AUS T20I
India’s openers came out blazing on a Gabba pitch known for its bounce and pace after being sent in to bat. With Australia’s pace spearhead Josh Hazlewood absent, due to Ashes preparations, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill made full use of the early running, racing along to 52 for no loss in just 4.5 overs. Gill, in sparkling form, smashed 29 runs off 16 deliveries, including four boundaries in one over from Ben Dwarshuis.
Abhishek, though living dangerously after two dropped chances, supported well and struck a powerful six over midwicket before lightning halted play. Soon after, torrential rain drenched the Gabba, forcing an abandonment and bringing the series to a disappointing yet decisive close.
Series Overview: India won the rain-marred series 2-1.
The T20I series between IND and AUS began and ended with rain the opener in Canberra was washed out, and the finale suffered the same fate.
Australia’s only victory came in Game 2 at the MCG, powered by Hazlewood’s fiery spell, before India’s spinners turned the tide on slower pitches in Hobart and the Gold Coast. A 2-1 victory is a confidence booster for India going into their T20 World Cup title defense on home soil.
Suryakumar Yadav Praises Team’s Collective Effort
Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav has expressed satisfaction with the all-round performance his team has produced throughout the series.
“The way everyone chipped in every game, it was a complete team effort with the bat, ball, and in the field,” Suryakumar Yadav said.
“Playing at home adds both pressure and excitement.
I saw the atmosphere during the women’s World Cup win, and we’ll look forward to that same energy.”
He has been credited with keeping his calm and instilling confidence among youngsters like Gill and Abhishek Sharma.
Australia’s Takeaways before the T20 World Cup
Despite the series defeat and frustrating weather interruptions, Australian captain Mitchell Marsh remained optimistic.
“I don’t remember the last time we had that many rain disruptions,” Marsh said.
“There’s a lot of positives, the flexibility and depth in our squad are promising signs in a World Cup year. Australia’s aggressive batting approach has, however, come under scrutiny after struggling against India’s quality spin attack on slower surfaces.
