Only a few cricketers have achieved this rare double of scoring 1,000-plus runs and taking 100-plus wickets throughout the long history of the Ashes.

1. Ian Botham – England’s Greatest Ashes All-Rounder

This list is headed by former England superstar Ian Botham. In 32 Ashes Tests, Botham scored 1,486 runs at an average of 29.13, including three hundreds and six fifties. He once made a match-winning *149 as his highest Ashes score.

With the ball, Botham was equally formidable, taking 128 wickets in 58 innings at a bowling average of 28.04. He managed seven five-wicket innings in the process and undoubtedly became one of the greatest Ashes all-rounders ever.

2. Monty Noble – Australia’s Early-Generation All-Round Force

Australian all-rounder Monty Noble is second on this list. He played 39 Ashes Tests, amassing 1,905 runs in 68 innings at a good average of 30.72. Noble scored one century and 15 half-centuries, which showcased his dependability with the bat.

His contribution with the ball was equally influential as he picked up 115 wickets in 66 innings at an impressive average of 24.86 including nine five-wicket hauls. Noble remains one of Australia’s earliest Test greats in Ashes cricket.

3. Wilfred Rhodes – England’s All-Round Maestro

At third place comes the English legend, Wilfred Rhodes. Rhodes scored 1,706 runs over 41 Ashes Tests in 69 innings at an average of 31.01, with one century and nine fifties. His Ashes career saw a highest score of an imposing 179.

With the ball, Rhodes took 109 wickets in 65 innings at the outstanding average of 24.00, along with six five-wicket hauls. His dual skills made him one of the most dependable all-rounders of his era.

4. George Giffen – Australia’s Pioneering All-Rounder

Australian great George Giffen completes this elite list. He played 26 Ashes Tests and scored 1,131 runs in 46 innings at a batting average of 24.58, including one century and six half-centuries. Giffen also took 101 wickets in 40 innings at an average of 27.09. His best bowling figures in the Ashes were 7/117, underlining his match-winning potential with the ball.
