Quentin developed an interest in cricket at the age of six. Realizing his talent and potential, Quentin’s father decided to form a softball cricket team so that Quentin could have more playing time.
School Cricket and First Breakthrough
During his secondary school days, Quentin lived in a hostel. It was during one of his casual cricket-playing sessions on the school ground that one of his teachers recognized his potential for power hitting. He was immediately selected for the school cricket team. Although Quentin Sampson was interested in both football and cricket, he was compelled to make a choice and he chose cricket.
Joining Parika Salem Cricket Club
After school, Quentin relocated to the East Bank area to take up cricket seriously. He joined the Parika Salem Cricket Club, where he trained under Ryan Hercules, a renowned coach who worked with the national and police cricket teams.
Quentin trained with Hercules to improve his batting techniques. Nevertheless, it was not a smooth process, as he encountered financial difficulties that forced him to work while still playing competitive cricket.
Career Growth with the Guyana Police Force
At the tender age of 17, Quentin Sampson got selected into the Police Sports Club. By the time he was 19, he was officially part of the Guyana Police Force as a police officer.
However, despite having some serious commitments to his profession, Quentin did not give up on his passion for cricket. His hard work was soon rewarded as he got selected for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
