IPL 2026: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is one of the destructive hitters in the Indian Premier League so far. Being just 15 years old in professional cricket means you usually need exceptional skill to stand up to the world’s best, and Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is already showing that ability. The young batter has impressed with his bold, fearless way of facing high-quality bowling, earning attention and praise from former cricketers.
Ian Bishop on Vaibhav
In a tournament defined by high pressure and international talent, his quick rise reflects how strongly young players are now impacting franchise cricket at the top level. Former West Indies fast bowler and commentator Ian Bishop feels that what truly separates Sooryavanshi is his mindset and confidence when competing against elite opposition.
Vaibhav has baseball Action
“I think psychologically, or from a character perspective, he is very strong because he is consistently going up against some of the best bowlers in world cricket,” Ian Bishop, ESPNcricinfo expert, told the media. “So his mental makeup is well-suited for competing at the highest level. He has already taken on Jasprit Bumrah. Technically, he is quite distinctive, with a bat swing that resembles a baseball-style action.”
Back of length balls
Bishop further noted that although Sooryavanshi does have certain technical areas that opponents may look to exploit, his aggressive response often cancels those out. “It’s difficult to clearly define his weakness because the back-of-a-length ball troubled him during the U19 World Cup and even against Sunrisers Hyderabad. But if the execution is even slightly off, he can send those same deliveries out of the ground,” he explained.
Hitting Six to elite bowlers
Sooryavanshi’s impact highlights both his natural ability and his adaptability. The Bihar-born batter has already faced elite pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Arshdeep Singh with notable confidence, even hitting first-ball sixes against some of them.
400 runs in Single season
He also created history by becoming the quickest player in IPL history to reach 400 runs in a single season, achieving the milestone in just nine innings at an extraordinary strike rate of 238.10. Among the standout performers of IPL 2026, he currently features in the top three of the Orange Cap standings.
Youngest Indian to Debut
As his performances continue to rise in franchise cricket, discussions around a possible India debut are also growing. If selected, he could challenge long-standing records, including Sachin Tendulkar’s mark as India’s youngest male debutant at 16 years and 205 days, as well as Shafali Verma’s overall record of 15 years, seven months, and 27 days. For now, his international future remains uncertain, but his current form has certainly pushed that possibility into serious consideration. Sooryavanshi is next expected to feature for Rajasthan Royals against Delhi Capitals on May 1.
