Ashes is expected to go ahead as planned after positive discussions between England players and the Australian board.
The tour was in doubt as the English players had issues over the strict quarantine measures in Australia. However, after recent discussions between the two parties, it seems the rules will be much more liberal towards the visiting team.
England and Cricket Australia have held a series of talks in recent weeks and are set to continue. Meanwhile, the ECB has scheduled a meeting on Friday. It will decide whether to continue with the tour before the end of the week.
Australia’s health minister Greg Hunt said that the government has been helping with the series to go through. He also added that the fate of the series is in England’s hands.
“Ultimately it’s always in the hands of the touring party. But we’ve been working to be flexible and practical,”
Hunt told Sky News Australia on Tuesday.
Cricket Australia has added that it is happy over the rise in vaccination rates. And appreciated the change in the nation’s approach towards the pandemic. Previously it was reported that even crowds could attend the matches in the stadiums.
The Ashes series is one of the most rewarding cricketing tours in the sport. It is expected to pour in around 100 million pounds in Cricket Australia’s coffers. Which is a significant sum during these tough times for sports.
Meanwhile, ECB on Monday has stated that the series would go ahead only if it could select an England squad befitting the series of this significance.
ECB will continue talking with its players over the week. And, will share any information and updates regarding the series with the players.
