Team India’s star bowler Deepti Sharma contributed to India’s historic victory in the third ODI against England at Lord’s by whipping off the bails at the non-striker’s end for England’s Charlie Dean. Deepti Sharma showcased a brilliant awareness-game on the cricket pitch at Lord’s and sealed a 3-0 clean sweep win for India against England in the 3rd ODI by taking the last wicket off.
The runout dismissal of England batter Charlie Dean in the 3rd ODI at Lord’s left the netizens divided and has triggered mixed reactions coming from the ace players of the game.
After landing in India, the all-rounder player, Deepti Sharma was questioned about the dismissal, whether it was a planned move or an instructive action. Responding to the question, the star cricketer of the Indian women’s cricket team, after arriving back in India, said “It was definitely a part of our plan. We had earlier warned her (Charlie Dean) again and again about crossing the crease before delivery. Whatever we did was part of the rules. We also made the umpire understand it.”
The ‘planned move’ by the women in blue has created a lot of fuss around Dean’s dismissal. The episode of Dean’s dismissal at Lord’s evoked mixed reactions on the social media and a war of fuming controversies has been kick started after the dismissal of England’s Charlie Dean at the non-striker’s end.
The former skipper of India’s Women’s cricket team, Anjum Chopra, has recently come out in strong support of Deepti Sharma and the planned move of the team. The former captain firmly mentioned that everything that happened on the field was within the laws of the game.
“I saw the game. I have seen every ball. So, I don’t know exactly what happened when, but it is really irrelevant. I don’t see any reasoning for being upset with Deepti Sharma or taking away from the fact that it took the sheen from Jhulan Goswami’s last game.” The former skipper of the India’s Women cricket team, stated.
However, the masterstroke from India’s all-rounder, Deepti Sharma has left the English cricketers stunned. Many legendary England players of the sport called out Deepti Sharma’s move to be against the ‘spirit of cricket’ at Lord’s during the 3rd ODI.
Michael Vaughan, a legendary English cricketer, recently took a brutal dig at Deepti Sharma for her runout dismissal of England’s Charlie Dean. The cricketer took to his official Twitter account and wrote a tweet that read “Mankad is under the rules, but I hope it’s not a go too tactic .. You surely don’t train all your lives to win a game using that tactic .. and I know Batters should train to stay behind the line, but it stinks seeing a game won like that .. Yesterday was a bloody good game too #India.”
Although the internet has been flooded with criticism and derogatory slurs by the fans and supporters of England, the women in blue have clearly driven India to a historic win of 3-0 against England. Under the laws of cricket, what happened in the 44th over with England’s Charlie Dean was not ‘mankading’ or ‘unfair’, as per the new law, it was considered as a ‘run out dismissal’.
