The Delhi Capitals, formerly known as the Delhi Daredevils, have always been a hot topic in the IPL. Well, they were famed in the early days of the IPL for their world-class hitters and bowlers, and they are now even more famous for their dynamic young players, who just led the team to their maiden IPL Final.
Delhi Capitals are yet to win a IPL title in 15 seasons of the IPL and have made only one appearance in the final in 2020.

The Delhi Capitals have been one of the most unpredictable teams in the global T20 tournament. Despite having several notable players over the years, the Delhi Capitals Team has never won the championship. After ten years and six captains, the Delhi Capitals Team has yet to taste the ultimate IPL victory, one that would put an end to the decade-long wait.
In its chase of the IPL trophy, the DC IPL has seen star players take the captaincy and succumb to pressure, most of which originates from rising expectations and ultimately the final despair of failing to meet them.
The Delhi Capitals made their imprint in the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League, finishing fourth. However, the squad has continuously finished near the bottom of the points table for more than half a decade.

Impactful Debut in 2008- 2009
In 2008, Virender Sehwag was named the first captain of the Delhi Daredevils, who finished fourth in the points table with seven victories and six losses. In the semi-final, Delhi lost by 105 runs to eventual champions Rajasthan Royals. Gautam Gambhir scored the most runs for Delhi in the debut season (534), while Yo Mahesh took the most wickets (16).
For the second consecutive season, the Delhi Daredevils reached the semi-finals before falling to Adam Gilchrist’s Deccan Chargers by six wickets in the elimination stage. AB de Villiers scored 465 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 130.99 to become the Delhi franchise’s greatest run-getter, while fast bowler Ashish Nehra finished with 19 wickets in 13 games at a strike rate of 18.21.

Reached playoffs in 2012, 2019 and 2021
Delhi won the league stage of the IPL 2012 with 11 victories out of 16 matches, qualifying them for the playoffs. However, losses to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Qualifier 1 and 2 respectively destroyed their title chances. Morne Morkel won the Purple cap for the season after taking 25 wickets and scoring 495 runs for the team.
After the franchise’s name was changed to Delhi Capitals, Shreyas Iyer took over as full-time captain. Delhi entered the IPL 2019 playoffs after a seven-year absence. They won nine games in 14 matches, which is the same as the top two teams on the table, the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings. The Capitals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator, but were defeated by CSK in Qualifier 2 to finish their season. Shikhar Dhawan (521 runs) and Kagiso Rabada (25) were the team’s leading run-getter and wicket-taker that season.
Due to a shoulder injury, Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the IPL 2021, and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was handed the duty of leading the side. Pant remained captain even after Iyer returned to the team in the second leg of the IPL 2021 in UAE.
The change in captaincy had no effect on the results, as the Capitals topped the league with 10 wins in 14 games. In the playoffs, they were defeated by CSK (Qualifier 1) and KKR (Qualifier 2). Shikhar Dhawan (587 runs in 16 innings) was Delhi’s greatest run-getter for the third year in a row, while Avesh Khan concluded the season as the team’s leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets.

Under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, the Capitals advanced to their first IPL final in any season. DC finished second on the points table with eight victories and six losses. The Capitals were defeated by the Mumbai Indians in all four games, including the Qualifier 1 and final. Dhawan (618 runs) and Rabada (30 wickets) led the squad in run-scoring and wicket-taking for the second consecutive season.
