Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made history on Wednesday (May 11) night in Kolkata by scoring the fastest fifty in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in just 13 balls. Jaiswal, who has had a breakout season for the Royals, continued his blistering form and broke the record in the Royals’ third over. The previous record was held by KL Rahul and Pat Cummins, who both did it in 14 balls.

Jaiswal launched the innings with a 26-run assault on KKR skipper Nitish Rana in the first over, smashing two sixes and three fours. After the second over, Jaiswal was on 31 off just 9 deliveries and needed to score 13 off the next four deliveries to reach the milestone. And he did exactly that. Samson hit three fours off consecutive Shardul Thakur deliveries before taking a single to reach fifty.

Cricketers’ reactions were numerous. While KL Rahul, who broke the record, doffed his cap to Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Michael Vaughan couldn’t stop praising the young left-hander. “This is some of the best batting I’ve seen in a long time.” “What a talent @yashasvijaiswal28,” Kohli wrote on Instagram. “Extraordinary knock. A unique player. “Take a bow, @ybj_19,” said SKY, who has been smashing it all over the place. While Vaughan stated that Jaiswal is so good that he should be on the plane to London as Rahuls’ replacement for the WTC Final.

Here are some of the reactions:

Jaiswal made a mistake by running out Jos Buttler in the second over, but he didn’t make any mistakes with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 98 off 47 balls to lead his side to a sensational win, while skipper Sanju Samson also took advantage of a dropped chance and went not out on 48 as the Men in Pink got a really timely win given how the points table is stacked.
