AUS W vs WI W: The Australia Women’s cricket side convincingly defeated the West Indies Women’s side, sweeping the series 3-0 in their T20I match. The rain intervened, but it was very much Australia ahead before the break, as they had set an incredibly high total for West Indies to chase while at the same time, West Indies had gotten off to a bad start on their chase of this target.
Georgia Voll Shines with Maiden T20I Century
Opener Georgia Voll grabbed the spotlight with a stunning first T20I century, achieving it in just 52 deliveries. Voll’s innings was a treat to watch, with her hitting six massive sixes during her innings.
Georgia Voll accelerated well, getting to her half-century in 28 deliveries and then needing only 24 deliveries to turn it into a century. This innings consolidates her position at the top of the order after the departure of Alyssa Healy.
As a result of this feat, Voll becomes part of the select number of Australian cricketers who’ve scored 100 runs in International Twenty20 matches. Other members include Meg Lanning, Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy.
Australia Post Massive Total
Backed by Voll’s brilliance, Australia scored 211 runs, their highest in T20I cricket since 2023 and fifth highest in their history. Despite Voll’s heroics, other batters’ contributions remained modest, though Sophie Molineux gave a late flourish with a quickfire 25 off 12 to add valuable runs in the later overs of the innings, while Carey played a useful supporting role to keep the run rate high.
Middle-Order Concerns for Australia
Even though the win was comprehensive, there were some concerns for the Australian team regarding their batting lineup. Phoebe Litchfield once again could not make the most out of her start, while vice-captain Tahlia McGrath struggled to get going and got out at a very low score.
Ellyse Perry also got out without making a significant contribution to the team, and for a while, there were concerns that the Australian team might collapse, but the lower order helped to steady the innings.
West Indies’ Weak Powerplay Costs Them
West Indies Women’s poor start continued as they lost three wickets in the powerplay. West Indies Women were put on the back foot right from the start with the early wickets, including one for Lucy Hamilton, her maiden wicket in a T20I. The run rate requirement increased for West Indies Women, leaving them with no prospects even before the rain interrupted the match.
Australia Experiment with Bowling Options
Australia seized the opportunity to try out various bowling combinations, with Georgia Voll getting a chance to bowl her first over in international cricket, showing off her potential to be an all-rounder.
Ellyse Perry also added one wicket by getting her first T20I wicket since 2024, while Megan Schutt continued to put pressure with disciplined bowling.
