Before the 2023 ODI World Cup, Jasprit Bumrah will be on par with five iconic players.

Here are five legendary players with whom Jasprit Bumrah could compete before the main event next year.

Jasprit Bumrah is without a doubt one of the top fast bowlers in the world today. He has steadily grown in stature since making his international debut in an ODI against Australia in January 2016, initially as a death overs specialist before gradually emerging as a threat throughout the game. In barely over five years of representing India, the pacer has taken 113 wickets in 27 Tests, the same number in 70 ODIs, and 66 wickets in 55 T20Is. The 28-year-old has the potential to complete his career as one of the sport’s all-time greats if his fitness allows it.

Here are five legendary players with whom Jasprit Bumrah could compete before the main event next year.

Ian Bishop

In ODIs, Bumrah has a higher average and strike rate than Bishop, with only a slightly worse economy rate, despite bowling in a more batting-friendly period.

Danny Morrison

Morrison was an out-and-out quick in a period when the Kiwis relied on dibbly-dobbly medium pacers. In 96 One-Day Internationals, he took 126 wickets. Bumrah is only 13 wickets behind him, but with a strike rate of 32.7, he will catch up quickly.

Scott Styris

Styris had a strike rate of 44.6, which was much higher than Jasprit Bumrah’s and also had a higher economy rate, despite being towards the top of New Zealand’s all-time wicket-takers in the 50-over format.

Jason Gillespie

Jason Gillespie was a key member of Australia’s dynasty in the 1990s and early 2000s, taking 142 wickets in 97 One-Day Internationals. Jasprit Bumrah has some catching up to do, but the Indian will likely need fewer matches to catch up to the Australian.

Malcolm Marshall

Surpassing him will be a tremendous challenge for Bumrah, but even if he can get near to Marshall’s wicket total by the 2023 World Cup, it will be a huge achievement.
