You must have heard a lot about Sachin Tendulkar, but do you know the story of the master of ‘Master Blaster’?

Guru Ramakant Achrekar, who made Sachin Tendulkar the God of cricket, started playing cricket at the age of 11 and he could play only one first-class match in his career.

A Guru is a person who first gives everything to take you to the heights of the sky and then stands on the ground and looks at you with his head held high. The head being held high has only one meaning… pride in his disciple. There are many such gurus in the world who gave a star to the world.

When the whole world praises that star, there are very few occasions when the guru is praised before the disciple. There are many stories of Gurus and disciples in the world of sports behind the making of these greatest batsmen, but there are only a few players whose name is mentioned along with their Guru’s name. That is, a disciple whose life, success, praise, everything is incomplete without Guru and one such example of Guru-disciple is coach Ramakant Achrekar and great cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

God of cricket Sachin is incomplete without the name of the coach. Coach Ramakant, who said goodbye to this world last year, is still alive in Sachin’s life and will always be.

Born in 1932, Ramankant Vitthal Achrekar’s sports career did not last long, after which he stepped into coaching and the dream which he could not fulfill. He taught young cricketers to see that dream and also to fulfill it. Many players like Sachin, Vinod Kambli, Ramesh Pawar, and Pranav Amre fulfilled this dream of becoming one of the greatest batsmen.

Could play only one match

Achrekar was born on 5 December 1932 in Malvan village of Maharashtra. His family and close friends used to call him Baba. When he was 11 years old, he came to Bombay with his family and here he was admitted to the school and it was there that he started getting interested in cricket. Achrekar started playing cricket at the age of 11 and then two years later i.e. in 1945, he started playing cricket for New Hind Sports Club and Yuva Maharashtra XI. However, his career as a player could not go much further.

Achrekar also worked in the State Bank, where he met Ajit Wadekar, who became a cricketer from a banker. Wicketkeeper-batsman Achrekar played only one first-class match in his career.

He played for the State Bank of India against Hyderabad in a tournament in 1964. Where he scored only 30 runs. However, after his career as a player failed, he started coaching in 1967-1968. Initially, he used to work in the nets of New Hind and other clubs, then he laid the foundation of a separate club in Shivaji Park. After this, many international players emerged from this club.

Cricket was in Achrekar’s blood

Cricket was in Achrekar’s blood. His father Vitthal was also a cricketer and he used to play club cricket with Vijay Manjrekar’s father. Although Achrekar did not succeed as a player, but he made a different identity for himself as a coach. Ramnath Parkar was his first disciple to get a Test cap. When Sachin was 11 years old, his brother introduced him to Achrekar and from here his new journey started.

However, in the 90s, Achrekar became paralyzed and his activity in cricket coaching also reduced a bit. But he always kept giving tips to the players. When Sachin also got into trouble, it was Achrekar who helped him. Last year on 2 January, he said goodbye to the world due to a long illness. The entire Indian sports world including the greatest batsmen Sachin Tendulkar was in mourning. Sachin shouldered the bier of his master who made him a master blaster and for the first time in his life, Sachin crossed all limits of emotion.
