Cricket South Africa released CSA Contracts 2026-27 season contracts with 18 men and 15 women receiving CA contracts, and Simon Harmer receiving a hybrid contract. CSA also introduced a new list of 20 emerging players, the Players of National Interest (PONI).

Headline: David Miller Not Contracted

The big news from the CSA contracts was that David Miller was not contracted. Miller had a hybrid contract previously.
His absence could indicate he is likely to retire from international cricket (no confirmation either way yet). He still participates in T20 leagues around the world.

Another player of note who did not get selected for the current squad is Rassie van der Dussen. He has played in other parts of the world and once again not selected here.

Other Key Players Dropped

Some of the players who have missed out on the latest CSA Contracts include:

Nandre Burger

Gerald Coetzee

Lizaad Williams

Reeza Hendricks

Eliz-Mari Marx

Most of these players have missed out due to injuries or planning for the future.

First-Time CSA Contracts for Emerging Stars

CSA has handed out contracts to several young and rising stars in the cricket world:

Ottneil Baartman

Corbin Bosch

Matthew Breetzke

Dewald Brevis

Karabo Meso

Focus on Future: CSA’s Road to 2027 Strategy

CSA emphasized its long-term vision through the “Road to 2027” plan. The strategy focuses on winning major ICC tournaments. Greater importance is being placed on developing young talent. The introduction of the PONI list strengthens the player pipeline.

Busy Season Ahead for South Africa

The CSA Contracts include a significant period from June 1, 2026, to May 31, 2027:

– Home Test Series against Australia, England, and Bangladesh

– Away Tour of Sri Lanka

– Build-up to the 2027 ODI World Cup

– Test and ODI captain Temba Bavuma will lead the contracted players, including key players such as:

Kagiso Rabada

Marco Jansen

Aiden Markram

It is also interesting to note that Anrich Nortje is not contracted due to injury concerns.

Women’s CSA Contracts: Core Squad Retained

On the women’s front, CSA retained an experienced core squad for a busy season:

Laura Wolvaardt

Marizanne Kapp

Ayabonga Khaka

Karabo Meso is the new entrant in the team.

However, some of the notable players who are not retained are:

Dane van Niekerk

Kayla Reyneke

Players of National Interest (PONI) List

The Cricket Association has added a 20-member PONI list to watch developing prospects in the domestic cricket system. This is creating a succession of players who will be available for National Team selection, allowing for a strong pool of support.
